English Language and Composition
Mr. Newby -- Email: tnewby@peekskillcsd.org
Dear Student/ Parent:
The following syllabus has been prepared so you will know exactly what is
expected in AP English 11. This rigorous, engaging, and thought-provoking course
prepares students for the AP examination in English Language and Composition, as well
as the N.Y.S. English Regents. Many undergraduate schools reward college credit to
students who exhibit proficiency on the AP exam; therefore, this course requires
exceptional commitment as writers and readers in order to justify potentially receiving
undergraduate credit. Course objectives, outlined below, are aligned with both national
and state learning standards designed to facilitate mastery of the English Language.
Also, on the back of this handout is a general overview of the different aspects of this
course. I look forward to collaborating with your sons and daughters throughout the
school year as we embark upon this challenge!
