Buying Supplies and Textbooks Introduction It is important to buy textbooks and supplies because you need the materials to pass the class. This is your first year of college at COD and this is the best way to purchase textbooks and supplies. First you need to be enrolled at the College, pay tuition or set up a payment plan, and then you can sign up for classes. Once registered for classes, you are able to see what books and supplies you need in the College’s website. Keep in mind that each class has different textbooks; for example ENG 1101 has different teachers and different textbooks. Step 1: Logging into MyAccess A. To log into My Access, go to www.MyAccess.cod.edu. You can get here by typing the address to the search bar at the top of the page or by using a Google search. You can also get to the website by going to www.cod.edu and clicking on MyAccess on the left side of the page under the ‘News and Events’ window on the website; in between the ‘Blackboard’ and the ‘Email’ tags. Click on ‘Log In’ button on the top right corner of the page. Screen grab 1A B. Once you select “class schedule” you select the appropriate semester term from the drop down menu. Make sure to click the right semester because every semester will yield you different textbooks. It will quickly show all your classes you are signed up for that semester. Please make sure that you are on the right semester. Verify the classes, teachers, and 2 dates before proceeding. The next step is tricky; you have to select each class so you can see what textbooks and supplies you will need for that class because each class will show different textbooks. Make sure you do these steps for every class that you have (if you have more than 1 class) because each class will have different set of textbooks, novels, supplies, etc... Screen grab 3A 3 B: It will take you to the College of DuPage bookstore website; displaying the books required and recommended for that specific class. Even though books are recommended, sometimes you don't need the books. Once you select the textbooks and supplies, you can either buy the books online and have them shipped to your house or you can print the sheet and take it to the bookstore and buy them there. In the bookstore you can find computers, snacks, books, and supplies. The books in the bookstore are arranged by subjects. Within the shelves the books are organized by increasing levels. For example, the English subject will start by ENG 1101, then ENG 1102, and so forth. Even with each level there are different teachers with different books. Once you have your textbooks selected you have to go to the cashier to pay for them. Then you are set for class. A: Buying Books and Supplies Using Financial Aid Money Once the financial aid money has been processed, then you can use your leftover financial aid money (if any is leftover) to buy books and supplies. In the bookstore there are two lines one for financial aid and one for the cashier. At the financial aid line you have to present your ID and a social security number. After the cashier scans all your textbooks and supplies, they give you a paper to sign. B: Renting Books 4 At the bookstore some textbooks can be rented. Renting the books is cheaper but you need to return them on the last day of the semester. 5
