Flip the Classroom
Revolutionary Classroom Experiences Using Blended Learning
Holly Brattberg – Global eTraining
ED5919-V
Have you or your students ever been bored or confused in class and then struggled with applying your technical skills
while doing homework or projects? What if you could "Flip the Classroom" and learn the basic content using your
unique learning style in an environment where you are comfortable, then apply your skills in an interactive and
supportive classroom environment? This class focuses on blended learning and the notion that online and classroom
training are complementary. Whichever way you look at it, technology is becoming increasingly important in all forms
of learning—it is now a requirement of the industry. Attend this class to learn how various Autodesk® Authorized
Training Centers have incorporated e-Training to enhance the classroom experience. With e-Training as a support in
the classroom, we actually see a shift in how we view an instructor, and instructors can focus on their core abilities by
being a subject matter expert and custom learning coach.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this class, you will be able to:

Understand the principle of Flipping the Classroom

Recognize trends in tech-powered classroom training

Plan a blended learning class using the closed loop learning method

Appreciate the transition from instructor to learning facilitator

Flip The Classroom: Revolutionary Classroom Experiences Using Blended Learning
Module 1: Flipping the Classroom
Learning Objective 1: Understand the principle of Flipping the Classroom
The phrase ‘Flip the Classroom’ is being used by educators world-wide. Instead of imagining
desks hanging from the ceiling, let’s explore the origin and current use of this revolutionary
concept in education. How is the education technology industry facilitating this transition in K-12,
Post-Secondary and Corporate Training.
Flip teaching is a form of blended learning which encompasses any use of Internet technology
to leverage the learning in a classroom, so a teacher can spend more time interacting with
students instead of lecturing. – Wikipedia, Flip Teaching
Benefits of Flipping the Classroom
Gives teachers more time to spend 1:1 helping students
Builds stronger student/teacher relationships
Sharing of information and learning content
Produces the ability for students to “rewind” lessons and master topics
Creates a collaborative learning environment in the classroom

Module 2: Tech Powered Learning
Learning Objective 2: Recognize trends in tech-powered classroom training
Now that we all have a common understanding of the expression ‘Flip the Classroom’, let’s
further explore leveraging technology to enhance the classroom learning experience. There are
many ways to use technology to ‘flip’ a traditional classroom. There isn’t a right way or a wrong
way – the best way is to try!

Module 3: Case Studies of Blended Environments
Learning Objective #2: Recognize Trends in tech-powered classroom training
Technology is already being used in many classrooms around the world. These spotlight organizations
are leading the pack for integrating e-Training supports into classroom based design education in highschools, colleges, universities and corporate training. The case studies highlight the various forms and
functions for blended learning approaches.

Module 4: eTraining supported Closed Loop Learning Method
Learning Objective #3: Plan a blended learning class using the closed loop learning method
This step-by-step class outline demonstrates how Digital School has used e-Training as a curriculum to
guide instructors through what we call the closed loop learning method, where a topic is covered for all
learning styles from concept to competence before starting the next topic.

Module 5: Re-framing the Instructor
Learning Objective #4: Appreciate the transition from instructor to learning facilitator
As we flip the classroom, the role of the instructor transitions from owner of information to learning coach
and subject matter expert. The value that the instructor brings to the learning experience is increased as
the instructor uses the tools and technology available.
