• At the top of page 3 in your INB, rewrite and answer the
following question:

DAY + NIGHT
• Earth’s rotation causes day and night
• Earth rotates on a tilted axis at 23.5o
• Axis = an imaginary line that runs through the center of
the Earth
• Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours = 1 DAY

• Earth moves around the sun. This is called a
revolution.
• One revolution is completed every 365 ¼ days = 1
YEAR
• The path Earth takes around the sun is called an
orbit. Earth’s orbit is shaped like an ellipse.

• Earth is split into 2 parts- Northern and Southern
Hemispheres

• Earth has seasons because its axis is tilted. The axis
always points in the same direction which causes
parts of Earth to be pointed toward and away from
the sun throughout the year.

Fall Equinox- 1st day of fall
Spring Equinox- 1st day of spring
