BBBS agency in the State and fourth largest in the Nation. Our mission is to provide children facing
adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change
their lives for the better, forever. And currently we are seeking a Director of Accounting. This new position
that reports to the Vice President of Administration will oversee and direct the organization’s financial
services and systems in accordance with policies and objectives developed by senior management;
ensuring that incoming and outgoing funds are accounted for using standards that meet generally accepted
accounting principles (GAAP), the National organization’s Standards of Best Practices, and funder
requirements. The Director of Accounting is also a member of the BBBS SEPA Leadership Council and will
participate on at least one agency work team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee all financial and accounting functions of BBBS SEPA. Work with and oversee the Accounting Manager
to ensure proper maintenance of the organization’s accounting systems, processes and procedures which
include the general ledger; financial records and transactions; fund management and availability; cash flow and
other required financial reporting.
2. Complete monthly financial statements including monthly and year-to-date reports, cash to accrual conversions,
cash flow analysis, and other reports as requested by senior management.
3. Provide all financial and budget information necessary for the development, maintenance, completion and
reporting of grants, contracts and United Way Services (UWS) allocations, which include completing forms,
reconciliations, reports and budgets as required.
4. Oversee and work with the Accounting Manager on the external, annual audit which includes management of
auditors; acting as agency liaison with Board-designated Audit Committee; confirmation of Accounting Manager
activities within accounting system; confirmation of accuracy of financial records; and providing additional
information as necessary.
5. Reconcile financial accounts including checking, savings and investment, ensuring account balances are
appropriate; interact with banking and investment personnel to resolve problems or discrepancies; manage
banking relationships and direct, when required, RFP process for new vendors.
6. Provide support to the Fund Development team through the creation of grant and funding application budgets;
expense utilization tracking; scheduled reporting to funders as required; managing invoicing process on
collaborative grants; and development of unique outcomes measures for donors as requested.
7. Oversee and manage the mechanized time tracking system, including staff labor reconciliations, grant and labor
allocations, and personnel resource utilization and availability determinations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Academic: minimum - Bachelor’s degree in finance required, Masters Degree preferred. CPA a plus.
Professional: At least three to six years experience in finance, accounting and data management required.
Must also possess a strong and ongoing knowledge of reporting and tracking laws and practices. Experience
with nonprofit management, and government grant processes and procedures a plus.
Personal Attributes: Extremely well organized with strong communications skills; excellent analytical skills,
able to prioritize and effectively respond to staff and agency needs; able to manage and perform in pressure
situations; a self starter, able to effectively problem solve; able to think out of the box and on one’s feet, and
provide excellent service to our internal customers as well as our external partners.
