40 days, nearly 150,000 visitors, over 3.5 tonnes of apples
distributed
Tasting of apples from Grójec and St. Martin croissants, molecular cuisine
demonstrations, cider from Dobroń, juices from Kałęczew, culinary
interpretations of contemporary design in the presentation The taste of an object
are among the many attractions of the Polish Pavilion at EXPO 2015. In this way,
Poland has attracted nearly 150,000 visitors to the World Exposition in Milan in 40
days. In accordance with the leitmotif of this year’s World Exposition, “Feeding
the Planet, Energy for Life”, the key objective of our exhibition is to support
Polish entrepreneurs from the agri-food sector in building permanent relations
with foreign partners. This is also the goal of the economic agenda implemented
by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
The agri-food sector is the strength of Polish exports, its value is close to EUR 20
billion. EXPO 2015 thus constitutes a perfect opportunity not only to showcase our
achievements, but also to offer new possibilities to Polish entrepreneurs. This is why our
presence during this year’s World Exposition is not limited to the impressing Pavilion,
admired by visitors from around the world. Our presence also envisages a rich
activation programme for Polish companies, and cyclically changing regional exhibitions
that present the potential of local food producers and processors. After 40 days we can
admit with satisfaction that such a strategy of Poland’s participation in EXPO 2015
works perfectly fine and the number of Polish entrepreneurs who gain measurable
profits thanks to this year’s World Exposition is still increasing, said Bożena LublińskaKasprzak, President of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
The Polish Pavilion
The Polish Pavilion is the fourth largest pavilion among the countries participating in
EXPO 2015. From the very beginning of the Exposition the Pavilion has been
enrapturing the visitors with its unique elevation which draws on wooden apple crates
that are typical of Polish landscape. Upon entry to the Pavilion, visitors head to an apple
orchard surrounded by mirrors, on the upper floor. Nearly 1,400 sq.m. of exhibition
space house amenities such as a restaurant that serves Polish dishes, a shop selling
Polish products, a screening room, a multimedia installation presenting the Polish
agri-food industry, an interactive playhouse and temporary exhibitions prepared in
cooperation with the regions and partners involved in Poland’s participation in EXPO
2015.

Every week the visitors to the Polish Pavilion can expect additional attractions
presenting the assets of Polish culture, economy and tourism. So far, the following

The basis for creating the strategy of Poland’s participation in World Exposition EXPO
2015 in the area of economic promotion was the list of Polish foodstuffs with the
highest export potential prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture. Thus,
the agenda followed by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development envisages
supporting the development of foreign trade in the sectors of food, agriculture and
processing. Representatives of Polish companies partake in events in the Polish
Pavilion, fairs, seminars and economic missions in Italy. In May Polish entrepreneurs
participated, inter alia, in one of the most important economic events in Europe
addressed at professionals, Tutto Food fair and a cooperation fair for the food
safety sector: Mission for Growth.
Tutto Food Fair
On 3–6 May the International Exhibition of Food Products Tutto Food will take place in
Milan. It is one of the most important economic events in Europe addressed at
professionals, including sales representatives, importers, distributors and managers of
catering establishments. The exhibition with surface area of over 120,000 sq. m. was
visited by 50,000 visitors.
In the framework of the implementation of the programme for activation of Polish
entrepreneurs, the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development organised a national
stand presenting Polish products, such as fruit, juices, dairy products, sweets, meat,
cured meat and herb products. Other events during the fair included an information and
promotion seminar devoted to the Polish food sector and meetings with foreign
entrepreneurs.
Agro-Food Manufacturing Matchmaking event – Mission for Growth
On 6 and 7 May the matchmaking event took place in the centre of Milan, with the
participation of companies from the food safety sector. Thanks to a series of 30 minute
bilateral meetings the participants had the opportunity to get to know the profiles of
foreign enterprises and to establish business cooperation. Over 300 companies from
around the world participated in the fair, of which the Polish representation constituted
10%.
In subsequent months Polish entrepreneurs will participate in a series of sectoral fairs
in Italy (International Exhibition of Organic and Natural Products SANA, 12–15
September 2015, Bologna; Fruit & Veg Professional Show MACFRUIT, 23–25
September 2015, Rimini; International Exhibition of Machinery, Plant and Technologies
for Agricultural Production AGRILEVANTE, 15–18 October 2015, Bari). The Polish
Agency for Enterprise Development also organises a procurement mission of Italian
entrepreneurs to Poland, and scientific seminars and networking meetings devoted
to joint Polish-Italian R&D projects co-funded by the European Union. Recruitment to
the events under the economic agenda takes place at the website www.expo.gov.pl:
http://expo.gov.pl/promocja-gospodarcza/zglos-swoj-udzial/.
Polish entrepreneurs will also have an opportunity to benefit from the business partner
matchmaking offer in the framework of the B2B meeting platform: Expo Business
Matching. The image of Polish food producers is supported by the cookbook Appetite
for Poland which presents the contemporary aspects of Polish cuisine.

The Polish Agency for Enterprise Development implements a communication activity
agenda that supports the Polish participation in the World Exposition EXPO 2015. The
activities are carried out mainly in Italy and in Poland with an objective to build an image
of Poland as a country which is economically attractive, and a place of establishing
valuable commercial contacts and making investments.
The basic communication channel is the website www.expo.gov.pl in three languages:
Polish, Italian and English, as well as channels in social media: Facebook, Twitter and
YouTube. When the Exposition was about to start, a promotion campaign was held
on-line that reached over 70 million users. Website users have spent over 30,000
hours, or well over 3 years, on the website. The Facebook profile achieved equally
spectacular results as it already has over 40,000 fans, thus ranking the second in
terms of reach among national pavilions at EXPO 2015.
A traditional campaign is an equally important element of promotion, implemented in
parallel with on-line activities. This is a joint undertaking of the Polish Agency for
Enterprise Development and the Polish Tourism Organisation, which guarantees
constant presence of information on Poland on Italian TV stations and in Milan city
space between May and September 2015. The campaign’s objective is to reach 1.5
million people.
Active participation of Polish entrepreneurs in the World Exposition EXPO 2015 in Milan
provides an opportunity to present the qualities of Polish food and to create an image
of a Polish entrepreneur as an attractive business partner in the eyes of clients
from around the world, thus contributing to enhancing the export capacity of Polish
foodstuffs. Poland’s participation in the World Exposition EXPO 2015 has been
covered by the project “Promotion of the Polish economy on international markets”
under Operational Programme Innovative Economy. The main goal is to build an
authentic and long-lasting confidence in the POLSKA brand and the Polish
Economy Brand by presenting Poland as an attractive partner on the international
market.
