Course Description
This course will help the student develop and understand the Electronic Health Record. It will
show how the Electronic Health Record has revolutionized the healthcare record keeping
process. The Electronic Health Record is a computerized organized collection of the patient’s
healthcare information all in a digital format.
Student Learning Outcomes for this Course:
1. The student will be able to define and understand the concept and features of the
Electronic Health Record.
2. The student will learn the key privacy and security issues related to the Electronic
Health Record.
3. The student will be able to create, build, and document in the patient’s Electronic
Health Record.
How This Course Works
HS250: Allied Health Information Methods is a completely online course; there will be no face-to-face
contact. All course communication, work, and activities will be completed online using D2L (Desire to
Learn) and McGraw Hill Connect. The advantages of a completely online course include ease of use,
convenience, accountability, and documentation. It is your responsibility to keep up with the due dates
for this course, check d2l regularly for due date information. McGraw-Hill PowerPoints can be
found on D2L for each chapter. Within each PowerPoint, I have added audio for most slides. This will
work as the lecture for the chapters. Look for a speaker icon in the lower right-hand corner of each slide.
You will need to download the PowerPoints in order to get the audio to play. You will also need to install
SpringCharts on your computer. There are instructions as well as a video on how to install SpringCharts.
You are responsible for learning to use this electronic health record as the book explains it. You will be
tested on components of SpringChart.

Participation
Successful learning in this class requires your participation. You have the opportunity to engage with
interesting resources, to dialogue with your instructors and peers, and to take responsibility for your own
learning. You are encouraged to take maximum advantage of this unique learning opportunity by
participating on a regular and consistent basis.

for 100% completion. There is no partial credit given if a 100% is not obtained. You may complete the
practice assignment as many times as you like. There is no time limit and you may use your textbook.
Each Chapter quiz will consist of 20 questions. There is a 60 minutes time limit to complete each quiz
