Undergraduate Laboratory Equipment The Laboratory Four Stroke Diesel Engine with DAQ This lab is where Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics Students do their lab experiments. The Four-Stroke Diesel Engine Module is designed for investigations and experiments on engines and motors by calculating thermal efficiency in the engine. The PC-aided sensors allow data acquisition in experiments. Hydrostatic Pressure Apparatus Fundamentals of Temperature Measurement The hydrostatic force and the center of pressure can be measured for any level of fluid when balanced weights are used to counter the force from the center of pressure on the walls of the vessel. Fundamentals of temperature measurement which enables you to compare different experimental approaches that are used in temperature measurement. Methods of Pressure Measurement & Calibrating the Pressure Transducer Free Forced Convection Unit/PC (Left) Comparison Heat transfer can be determined (Right) The of different pressure measurement methods in the Utube and Bourdon tube manometers. weight of the masses placed on the piston forces the transducer to be subjected to change in pressure. experimentally using this stand. With its different heater surfaces and adjustable speed fan, the test stand provides an insight into industrial applications of heat transfer by the convection. Vapour Pressure Refrigeration Cycle Properties of Fluids and Hydrostatic Bench This apparatus is used to determining the coefficient of performance of a vapour compression refrigeration cycle. The cooling coils and compressor unit are used to drop the temperature of a fluid. The bench investigates the hydrostatic pressure and its effects on different areas of the surrounding vessels. The water levels in the communicating tubes are observed under different pressure situations. Back to Top Hydrodynamic Trainer / PC Flow Visualisation Table This measures the flow losses and pressure characteristics of different pipes and piping components during laminar and turbulent flow by pressure sensors that send the data to the adjacent computer. This Flow Visualization Table allows students to observe the streamlines and flow patterns in fluids and to exam the influences of sources and sinks on the streamlines. Venturi Tube Variable Speed Centrifugal Pump This is the Venturi tube which is used to demonstrate the Bernoulli’s Law and the Energy Equation by measuring the fluid height differences in the wall pressure taps. The variable speed centrifugal pump is used to determine the pump efficiency, the electrical input power of the drive motor and the hydraulic output power of the pump. Back to Top
