Not Dressing For Class
• In addition to being present, all students must
dress appropriately for P.E. classes.
 Proper shoes and clothing must be worn
 The NHS Dress Code is in effect during PE classes
• No short shorts
• No cutoff shirts
• Alternative assignments may be given to students
•
who choose not to – or are otherwise unable to
participate.
Failing to dress appropriately for class will result
in a loss of participation points.
What if I am Sick?
• What if I am sick? Do I have to dress for class?
 Yes, students are always required to dress for class – unless
they have a doctor’s note that excuses them from all
activity.
 If you are so sick that you cannot participate, you shouldn’t
be in school! However, if your parents demand that you
attend school while you are ill, you must dress and then
speak to your teacher.
 Your teacher will determine what activities you shall
participate in
• To be excused for more than one class period, students
must have a doctor’s note. If not, you will lose points for
each day that you do not participate in physical activity…
Discuss Extended Illness/Injury
What if I am Injured?
• What if I am injured, and I cannot participate?
 To be excused from participation, we require a doctor’s
note. Therefore, you must still dress for class.
 However, if you are legitimately injured, and you have
yet to see a doctor – get dressed for class, and your
teacher may excuse you from certain activities.
• To be excused for more than one class period,
students must have a doctor’s note. If not, you
will lose points for each day that you do not
participate in physical activity… Discuss Extended
Illness/Injury
Illness / Injury
• In the event of lost points due to an
uncorroborated injury/illness – a student
may be required to make up lost points
• This must be done during A Day Seminars
as described on a previous slide.
• Failing to make up lost points within 2
weeks will result in a zero for that
particular assignment
Preferential Treatment
• “We have a huge game against Novi today! I am going to
sit out today, okay?!”
 If a student-athlete chooses to sit out on a game day – (s)he will
receive a ZERO for the day
 In the unfortunate event that this happens – you can expect your
teacher to have a conversation with your coach
• All student-athletes are expected to dress and participate
on game days.
 We will do our best to exclude you from participating in activities
that will keep you from performing at your best in the game
 Editorial Comment: If you can’t jog for 10 minutes during the
warm up, you probably shouldn’t be playing
Student Behavior &
Discipline Problems
• Students can (and will) lose Points for
demonstrating unacceptable behaviors such as:





Lack of Participation
Unsportsmanlike Behavior
Insubordination
Inappropriate Language or Communication
Any other disciplinary action listed on the participation
rubrics or covered by the teacher:
• Not cleaning up at the end of the hour
• Not spotting a partner in the weight room
• Lost points cannot be made up.
Tests & Quizzes
The other half
of your grade
*****
The average of all written quizzes
and skill assessments make up the
remaining 50% of the student’s
marking period grade
Written Quizzes
• All students will take Written Quizzes in their
Physical Education Classes
• These quizzes will test student knowledge in
the following:
 Game Play Etiquette
 Rules & Strategies
 Conditioning Classes: Training Applications,
Health & Lifestyle Benefits, Lifting
Techniques, Safety Procedures, etc.
Skill Assessments
• All students will assessed on their ability to
•
properly execute skills and techniques that have
been taught and practiced in their respective
Physical Education classes.
Examples include – but are not limited to the
following:
 Proper execution of the Overhand Serve during a
Tennis unit
 Proper execution of the Bench Press in a Conditioning
class
 Proper execution of the Set Shot during a Basketball
unit
Final Exam
Physical
Fitness Testing
*****
The Final Exam is worth 20% of the
semester grade
Fitness Testing
• The Final Exam is the culmination of all
Presidential Physical Fitness Tests:
 Students are tested at the beginning of the semester
 Students are tested again at the end of the semester
• Students will be tested in five areas of physical
fitness:





Upper Body Strength… Push Ups
Low Back & Abdominal Strength… Sit Ups
Agility… Shuttle Run
Flexibility… Sit & Reach
Cardiovascular Endurance… One Mile Run
Fitness Requirements
• Students are required to participate to the best of
•
their ability on ALL pre and post tests.
Students are required to meet or exceed the
National Standards for physical fitness
 These standards are determined by the President’s
Council for Physical Fitness, and the standards are
based on the student’s age and gender
 The National Standards represent the 50th Percentile…
simply put, we are asking our students to score higher
than half of the students their age and gender
• Some students may encounter difficulty in
reaching the National Standards for fitness.
What if I cannot reach the
National Standards?
• Any student that encounters difficulty in meeting the
National Standards for physical fitness will have the
opportunity to alter those standards by setting a goal.
 First and foremost, any student who fails to give maximum effort
on any fitness test will be prohibited from altering any standards.
 It is the responsibility of the student to set goals that are
challenging yet attainable.
 If agreed upon by the teacher – these goals will alter the
curricular standard for that student
• What if I set a goal, and I don’t reach that goal?
 There are reasons why individuals fail to meet goals… A Goal
requires action steps. If you fail to fulfill any of those action
steps, you will fail to meet your goal… and ultimately fail that test
