Benton High School 9th Grade Physical Education Syllabus Instructor: Brad Hubbard Phone: (816) 671-4030 Email: brad.hubbard@sjsd.k12.mo.us Objectives: Students will: Describe the concepts of fitness and wellness in relation to overall good health. Identify how to become and stay physically active and fit. Analyze the cardiovascular system and the importance of cardiovascular fitness. Assess their health and skill related components of fitness. Recognize how nutrition affects body composition and healthy choices. Compare healthy lifestyles to unhealthy lifestyles. Grading: Students who dress out and participate in an appropriate manner can earn a maximum of 20 daily participation points. Points will be deducted from grade for students who do not dress out and students may lose points for not participating in an appropriate manner. Students who are unable to participate due to medical reasons need to get an excuse from a physician so other arrangements can be made. Other points will be awarded for class assignments, quizzes, projects, tests, etc. The SJSD grading scale will be in effect when determining the overall grade. Students will have an opportunity to make up daily participation points if they are absent. Locker Rooms and Dress: Students will use the lower locker room across from the Modis Gym. Students will be issued a locker and lock for their use during class. Students are required to dress out daily and are highly encouraged to shower after class. Appropriate dress includes: gym shorts, t-shirts, sweets, tennis shoes, socks, etc. Students need to bring fresh gym cloths everyday and also need to wear proper shoes. It is preferred for students to have a separate pair of shoes to wear in class. All gym shoes need to be rubber soled tennis shoes that do not mark up the floor. The teacher is not responsible for items left in the gym or locker room. Classroom Procedures and Expectations: Students and Instructor will: Be prepared for class on time. Respect the rights of others and building facilities Show discipline by engaging in class activities Tardy Students will be marked tardy if they enter class after the bell unless they have a valid pass On time refers to being in the class prior to the tardy bell Make up work It is the responsibility of the student to get make up work in a timely manner An extra class period or two will be granted for make up work depending on the task or assignment Once unit or concept is completed, make up work can no longer be completed unless you miss school on one of the last days of a unit or concept Cell phone and other personal technology The expectation is that all phones and or devices be locked up in gym lockers during class time Out of sight is out of mind!! If the use of a phone or other device is appropriate for the class or task at hand permission may be granted to use it by the teacher Consequences Large infractions will be dealt with and followed by school policy Classroom teacher based on teacher’s discretion will deal with minor infractions Students will be given a chance to redirect themselves appropriately Teacher will help student redirect Students will be referred to Administration Student Signature: ______________________________ Guardian Signature: ____________________________
