ACTIVITY: As sales headquarters for Grundfos USA, Grundfos Kansas City serves a variety of market segments with a full offering of pump solutions. Primary markets include domestic (residential) building, groundwater, irrigation and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning original equipment manufacturer. Primary product offerings include circulators for residential and commercial applications, vertical multi-stage pumps for industrial and commercial applications, dosing pumps, groundwater pumps and systems for pressure water boosting. Grundfos USA’s sales headquarters relocated to Kansas City from Fresno, Calif., in 2000, and today employs more than 250 people. In addition to sales, Grundfos Kansas City is home to a number of departments, including: human resources, information systems, finance, customer service, product management, marketing, customer and employee training and the North American headquarters for research and development.
SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES: The facility utilizes efficient motor sensor switches, saving energy use for lighting by nearly 30 percent. Grundfos Kansas City also replaced incandescent signs with LED alternatives and supplemented the hot water system using solar heating. Through these initiatives, the facility was able to cut energy from 286 kilowatt hours per square meter in 2009 to 217 kilowatt hours in 2013.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Grundfos is proud to support numerous initiatives in and around the Kansas City area.
Walk for Water: In 2012, Grundfos Kansas City hosted its first Walk for Water in support of Water Missions
International, a non-profit committed to providing sustainable, safe water solutions to the developing world. The event drew more than 150 participants and raised $50,000 to fund two water treatment systems in Haiti and raise awareness for the global water crisis. The second annual Walk for Water will be held in September 2013.
Cristo Rey Kansas City: Grundfos partners with Cristo Rey, a college preparatory high school for urban youth with limited educational options, by providing student internships throughout the school year. All Cristo Rey students finance the majority of their educational cost by participating in the innovative work-study program.
Kansas City Missouri Parks & Recreation: Grundfos actively works with the KCMO Parks & Recreation Department and its wide use of fountains to improve operating costs through the use of energy efficient pump solutions, saving energy and water usage.
Grundfos Challenge: In 2012, Grundfos Kansas City invited students from Kansas and Missouri universities to compete in the Grundfos Challenge, a competition challenging business and engineering students to design solutions for managing the world’s scarce water resources. The winning 12 students traveled to Grundfos’ global headquarters in
Denmark, to represent the US in a weeklong final competition against their Chinese and Danish counterparts .
Volunteer Hours: In addition to supporting Grundfos-sponsored causes, Kansas City employees each receive 16 volunteer hours per year to support causes of their choice. In 2012, Grundfos Kansas City employees logged more than 1,100 man-hours working with local charities.
Sporting Kansas City: After furnishing the team’s Sporting Park with advanced water boosting technology in
2011, Grundfos expanded its support of Sporting Kansas City in 2013 with a sponsorship of the team’s grounds crew. As part of the three-year agreement, the Sporting Park Grounds Crew has been renamed the “Grundfos
Grounds Crew,” and crew uniforms have been branded with the Grundfos logo.
The Kansas City Royals: Grundfos was named the “Official Pump and Pump Systems Provider for the Kansas City
Royals” in 2012, and in 2013, the company supplied the stadium with 18 state-of-the-art pumps that together save the Royals between $50,000 and $65,000 in energy costs each year.
FIRST Robotics: Grundfos Kansas City sponsors the FIRST Robotics team at local high school Mill Valley, in order to inspire students to develop passions for science and technology.
