Supporting Information for Actions this Reporting Period: Cox, Carly Page 1 of 2 Board Brief 2015-19 Professional Education Committee Interim Report 1. Focus Area – Strategic review of NCMA’s Educational Portfolio - Melissa Starinsky and her PEC focus group team facilitated discussions at the GCMC. This focus group discussed member satisfaction with NCMA education programs. General consensus was that NCMA is offering the right content that is reasonably priced both face to face and online. Majority of NCMA members consider themselves in the “advanced” category and prefer interactive classes; however cost constraints and time away from the office are major issues. With the growing demand of “advancing” professionals in the industry, the focus group found a need for a mid-level Leadership Development Program. 2. Focus Area – Alignment of NCMA’s Education Portfolio with the CMBOK - John Wilkinson and his PEC focus team compiled a matrix of NCMA products and how they align with the CMBOK (Attachment 1). This focus group found that NCMA members seeking training believe the CMBOK contracting process competencies 1.0 Pre-Award, 2.0 Acquisition Planning and Strategy, and 3.0 Post-Award are more important than the application competencies 4.0 Specialized Knowledge Areas and the foundational competencies 5.0 Business. Analysis of the contracting process competencies showed a significant gap in the Education portfolio for 1.7 Contract Financing, 3.5 Transportation, 3.6 Contract Interpretation and Disputes, 3.7 Contract Closeout. All reviewed surveys indicated a significant interest in finance, legal, and commercial contracting (FAR 12) topics as well as in IT contracting, strategic sourcing, and contract closeout. 3. Focus Area - Enhance relationships between universities and NCMA – Jonene Johanson and her PEC focus group team are working on several items that would further relationship with universities. Leonardo Manning successfully led the DAU relationship building, part of his tasks included linking websites between DAU and NCMA and renewing of two MOAs. Jonene Johanson requested and received information regarding the NCMA Educational partners from Chris Martin and Susan Esprella has begun preliminary research on bringing more value to NCMA and Educational Partners. Cassandra Manos researched ways to support certification of students that offer CM college courses. Carly Cox, with assistance from Jonene Johanson, Mark Stevens, and other PEC focus team members, are creating CM programs/curricula for Wright State and other interested universities. Several samples have been already created and are posted to CMBOK on pages 200204. Mark Stevens is creating a flyer to keep universities in the know about what is current in CM. Attachment: 1.
