represented at the Long Beach World Congress 2009. Many thanks to our members
Matt Plaxton and Yim Lincoln who volunteered their time to greet attendees and pass
out information about our NCMA Chapter. It was a wonderfully executed recruiting
initiative! Special thanks to Matt for the fantastic chapter brochure and to Ed
Velasquez who contributed “orange” tea light favors for handouts and assisted with
the greeting process.
At the April joint-chapter meeting hosted by the Beach Cities Chapter, Ed informed
me that he will continue be our National Director for the Southwest region for
another year! Collectively, the chapters were fortunate to have John Bishop, a
retired Boeing VP, present on "Careers and NCMA". His presentation was very
thought provoking and well delivered.

Congress, it was announced that the CMBOK (Contract Management Body of
Knowledge) will be reviewed and revised. Expect CMBOK v.3 to be rolled out in
2010. As soon as UCI Extension obtains the outlines on the expected revisions,
courses will be revised as needed. In addition, it is expected that certification exams
will be revised in order to conform. Visit the National NCMA Website for information
about certification. For more information contact Nancy Salzman, Vice President of
Education at nsalzman@uci.edu or 949-824-5524.
Employment Update
The recent presentation at the April Tri-Chapter Meeting by John Bishop was
very good, well presented and informative. John’s presentation provided a
lot of commonsense approaches to how to best position oneself to gain
more responsibility and an equally commensurate promotion. He touched
on why you should not overlook those that you mentor as you move up in
an organization. His talk did not focus on bulleted topics, rather he
discussed important concepts to folksy happenings to him as he got ahead
in Boeing. All in all a very good hour spent listening and learning. I advised
everyone there that the Air Force has started allowing people looking for a
civil service position in contracts, to go directly to the Air Force base that
they want to work at and apply directly with the CPO there. ~ Frank Fabro
Our Chapter web site continues to be updated with new opportunities. We
encourage everyone looking for a position to check not only our website for
Contract-related positions; but, also those of National and other local
chapters. Networking is one of the Best Ways to get out and test the
marketplace! For more information, contact Daniel J. Alfonzo, VP of
Employment at djalfonz@rockwellcollins.com or (949) 221-5614.
