Unit 1 Voc. Assignment – Word Origins due: Put the words from unit one in a chart showing the origin of the word. You may use a website such as dictionary.com, but you may not cut and paste. On the front of the card put the word and part(s) of speech. On the back of the card, put the definition (s) and synonym(s) and antonym(s). This can all be copied exactly out of the vocabulary book. If the word does not list the synonyms or antonyms then you do not have to list them. Use the cards to study for the quiz. Unit 5 Assignment – Mapping due: Create a map for each vocabulary word. Include the word and part of speech in the center box. Create other boxes or circles for the definition(s), synonym(s), antonym(s), and then draw a picture or use the word in a meaningful sentence. Do this on white computer paper and put no more than four maps per side of the page. Unit 7 Assignment – Chart due: Create a chart for the words in unit seven with the following categories: Word/POS Personal Clue Definition(s) Sentence (The personal clue can be a picture or a phrase that is meaningful to you and will help you remember the definition. The sentence should not be copied out of the book and should demonstrate you understand the meaning of the word.) Unit 9 Assignment – Pictures due: Draw or use a computer-generated picture to represent each word in unit 9. Do not draw the pictures if you are artistically challenged. (No stick figures for example.) Underneath each pictures put the part(s) of speech and definition(s) of the word. Do this on white computer paper. No more than four pictures per page. Unit 11 Assignment – Sentences due: Use each of the words in unit 11 in an original sentence. To practice fluency, you will be using a variety of methods to start each sentence. Start five of your sentences with an adverb. Start five of your sentences with a prepositional phrase. Start five of your sentences with a gerund. The last five can be your choice of the first three choices. Be sure to label every sentence and underline the vocabulary words Unit 13 Assignment – Quiz due: Create a quiz using all twenty words. You should include sections on parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and definitions. Your questions can be matching, true/false, multiple choice, or fill in the blank (use a word box). You must have an answer key on a separate piece of paper. Unit 15 Assignment – Your Choice due: Use any of the study methods we used for the odd units for the words in unit 15.
