Parts of the Exam:
Part One: Vocabulary Words in Context
For this section of the exam, you will be asked to read a series of sentences and pay attention
to a vocabulary word that appears in italics. You must decide if the word in italics is being used
correctly in the sentence. If it is correct, mark “No Error.” If it is incorrect, select the word that
would best replace it. Please note that for this particular section, the sentences were taken
from the “Choosing the Right Word” activities found in the vocabulary book.
Part Two: Completing the Sentences
For this section of the exam, you will be asked to read a series of sentences and choose the best
vocabulary word to complete the sentence. Again, these sentences were taken from the
“Choosing the Right Word” activities found in units 1-8 of the vocabulary book.
Part Three: Synonyms
For this section of the exam, you will be asked to choose a word that most nearly expresses the
same meaning of the word in bold face type. In other words, this section is asking you to find a
synonym to match each word/phrase provided. These questions were taken from
www.vocabularyworkshop.com Unit 1 diagnostic test.
Part Four: Antonyms
For this section of the exam, you will be asked to choose a word that most nearly expresses the
opposite meaning of the word in bold face type. In other words, this section is asking you to
find an antonym to match each word/phrase provided. These questions were taken from
www.vocabularyworkshop.com Unit 1 diagnostic test.
