Spring 2012 Volunteer Application &
Responsibilities
Volunteers:
 Attend the Program Wide Meeting on Thursday, February 9th
 Come to site EVERY WEEK and ON TIME
o If you cannot come to site please email me at sstudio@bu.edu as well as your Peer
Leader
 Plan an art lesson during your scheduled time during the semester.
o The lesson should have some educational value and focus on a movement, art technique
or material.
o Plan around the list of available materials. If you need a material not on the list, ask for it
in advance, and I will order it!
o Email me your lesson plans a week before you are teaching.
o Use websites or books for ideas. Always feel free to ask me for suggestions too! There is
also a binder of past lessons in the CSC for more ideas (4th floor of the GSU).
o Provide an example of your lesson for the students (make one, print one off the web, or
bring in the book).

Peer Leader Responsibilities
Peer Leaders:
 Take on a leadership role and act as a communicator between the Program Manager, your
volunteers and your site.
 Serve as a friendly role model for volunteers and students!
 Fill out the attendance sheet every week and encourage people to be on time.
 Make sure the attendance sheet, along with all of the materials are returned immediately after site
to the CSC on the 4th floor of the GSU in the hallway between the CSC and ERC. Peer leaders
will be held responsible for late materials.
 Plan your site’s first lesson.

*We visit afterschool programs so all sites are in the afternoons between 3 and 6:30 PM,
including travel time. Time commitment is 2-3 hours.
*Please list the times you are willing to volunteer. I will do my best to place you according to
your preference.
Some sites require a CSC van for transportation.
