Adam: A Type of Jesus • Romans 5:14 (NASB) “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” Who Am I? • My time on earth did not begin in a natural way. I had no earthly father. I was made in the image of God. I was innocent and without sin. In my innocence, I was tried and tempted by the serpent. I made an important decision which involved a tree that impacted all of history. My decision had both conditional and unconditional consequences. While I was asleep, my side was pierced. After I awoke, I was given a bride; one in whom I could be “one” with. I was also given authority and dominion over God’s creation. Who am I? Adam • A Miraculous Beginning To Earthly Life – Gen 1-2 • Made Without Sin… – As all men are until they choose to sin (Eccl 7:29) • Given Authority Over Creation – Gen 1:26-29 • Given A Wife By God – Genesis 2:21ff Jesus • A Miraculous Beginning To Earthly Life – Luke 1:26-35 • Made Without Sin… – Jesus lived His whole life w/o sin – The Ideal Man • Given Authority Over Creation – Col 1:15 & Matt 28:18 • Given A Wife By God – 1 Cor 6:15-17 Adam • A Choice Regarding A Tree That Impacted History (Romans 5:12-21; 1 Cor 15:20-21) 1. 2. 3. Adam (and all men) lost access to the tree of life. Men begun to be separated from God because of their sin. All of creation was cursed by God. Jesus • A Choice Regarding A Tree That Impacted History (Romans 5:12-21; 1 Cor 15:20-21) 1. 2. 3. All can regain access to the tree of life in Christ. Jesus made fellowship with God possible again. All of creation will be cleansed of the curse (Romans 8:19-23) Which Adam Do You Follow? • Are you in Adam because of your sin? • Are you in Christ because you have faith? • ”Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection…” (Romans 6:3-5)
