If you are doing office hours please sit in the front of the office and be visible! b. There was a bill passed last semester saying you may NOT pass around SGA packets during senate. c. Please read over your documents (guidelines,bylaws, ie) and if you have any questions please contact her! d. If you are coming in late please sign in with Becky Posten. Vice-Chair – Tiffini Smith a. Please start getting your legislative juices flowing! Write bills and do research! We need to make a change for the student body and make an impact. b. If you want to put something on the agenda please email Kate by 2PM on Friday. c. No one should be leaving senate early! Please stay for the entire time. If we start seeing you make a habit of this we will start making them count as absences. Clerk – Rebecca Posten a. We use office hours to prove that we are using the office, and if not we could potentially lose the office! Please do your office hours and thank you to those who did do your office hours. III. New Business a. New Degree Audit Program – Seth Sykes i. The university has invested a lot of money into this new program called Degree Works. It will show you what you need to do to graduate. It will not replace your advisor but will make it easier to help you see what you need to do to graduate. They are doing research now to make sure that this program works correctly and will advise everyone accordingly. Once research is complete the advisors will be introduced to the program in October and trained on how to use it. Then the advisors will present it to the students. This program will give you a summary on what classes you need to take, what your GPA is, and how close you are to graduating. He is very excited for this new program and is confident that it will work! This program will be implemented for student use in January 2013. This program will work for double majors, minors, and undergraduate certificates. Also will show transfer credits, list the name of the class that you took at the other institute, as well as the name of the equivalent class at VCU. The view of the program looks a lot better than the old program, it shows pre-reqs that need to be taken before taking certain classes, it shows you a “line” on how close you are to graduating, and it will list what you still need to complete. It is in the plan to include when classes will be offered. Will also include a way for potential transfer students to plug in what classes they are currently taking and how there credits will transfer to VCU. There are university sponsored committees that use classified staff to sit on these committees. Ryan sits on the University council and they are currently working on the Quest for Extinction Plan. There is a website that you can go to and let us know your ideas. Please go to this website and let us know if you have any feedback! The website is future.vcu.edu. c. Localist Discussion – Chairman Andrew Thune i. Andrew had an online meeting with Tom Nelson who works with the Localist. He wants to create an event page for us that has trending events that would be going on at our campus. You can add events and see who is going to an event or who is not. Any organization can use this website. Different schools use this kind of website and he can tailor this website to however we would like. It would be a great way to show where all events are taking place at or what events are even taking place in a given day. This website would replace the VCU calendar of events. He wants to know if we think the students would use it. It would help students become more involved in school events. It would cost about $1.50 per student. 1. d. Presented the groups that requested money and how much was granted. Groups included were Tiranga, Emerging Health Care Leaders, United 2 Heal, Student Hip-Hop Organization, Yu Gi OH Club, and Gamma Iota Sigma. Total amount funded was $9,963. Two events were not funded. The bill is on Blackboard if you wish to look over it and have any questions. IV. Discussion and Voting a. Election of LICA Chair i. Elections must be redone because no one motioned to do vote by voice, so Judicial did not pass the election. b. 1. Will be going over committee guidelines again. Will be discussing clothing drive coming up. Will be discussing interview discussions as well. c. Appropriations – Chairman Christopher Straus i. Spoke about bylaws, will be speaking about appropriate funding for some groups. d. Elections – Chairwoman Amani Walker i. Had elections of committee officers. Spoke about mock elections and advertising senate elections during mock elections. SGA packets are due this Wednesday at 5pm. They will not be accepted late. e. Information & Technology – Chairman Andrew Thune i. Went over the Localist stuff today and will be reporting back to his committee with Senate feedback. Looking into getting new computers for the office. f. Long Term Projects – Chairwoman Christina Dang i. Covered what they wanted to do for the rest of semester at the last meeting. Spoke about getting a football team and emerging leadership program that has come up, which could possibly lead to leadership being a major. g. Legislative Issues & Civic Action (LICA) – Ahmad Mahmoodi i. Meetings are at 9PM on Sunday night. h. Public Relations – Chairman Brian Armstrong i. Last meeting they made an advertisement for the mock election and the election for the senators. Last meeting they spoke about guidelines, elected committee positions, and spoke about projects that they want to get started. Please attend meetings and if you can not attend them please let Stephanie Browne know! VI. Bill Assignments a. SB04 is going to go back to appropriations. VII. Announcements a. Tiffini Smith- If you got your phone snatched it was a message to let you know that you need to put your phone away while we have guest speakers. If you are sleeping you will be asked to leave and it will be counted as an absence. b. Niyati Patel- meeting is in the SGA office at 5PM on Wednesday. c. Stephanie Browne- First part of the election video will include members of SGA sharing what we do! d. Kate Witt- If you come in late please check in with the clerk. If you consistently come in late it will start to count as an absence.
