Please start getting your legislative juices flowing! Write bills and do research! We need to make
a change for the student body and make an impact.
b.
If you want to put something on the agenda please email Kate by 2PM on Friday.
c.
No one should be leaving senate early! Please stay for the entire time. If we start seeing you

We use office hours to prove that we are using the office, and if not we could potentially lose the
office! Please do your office hours and thank you to those who did do your office hours.
III. New Business
a.
New Degree Audit Program – Seth Sykes
i. The university has invested a lot of money into this new program called Degree Works. It
will show you what you need to do to graduate. It will not replace your advisor but will make
it easier to help you see what you need to do to graduate. They are doing research now to
make sure that this program works correctly and will advise everyone accordingly. Once
research is complete the advisors will be introduced to the program in October and trained
on how to use it. Then the advisors will present it to the students. This program will give you
a summary on what classes you need to take, what your GPA is, and how close you are to
graduating. He is very excited for this new program and is confident that it will work! This
program will be implemented for student use in January 2013. This program will work for
double majors, minors, and undergraduate certificates. Also will show transfer credits, list
the name of the class that you took at the other institute, as well as the name of the
equivalent class at VCU. The view of the program looks a lot better than the old program, it
shows pre-reqs that need to be taken before taking certain classes, it shows you a “line” on
how close you are to graduating, and it will list what you still need to complete. It is in the
plan to include when classes will be offered. Will also include a way for potential transfer
students to plug in what classes they are currently taking and how there credits will transfer
to VCU. Please spread the work about this new program, talk to your advisor about it, and

University Committee Updates – Vice President Ryan Garnowski
i. There are university sponsored committees that use classified staff to sit on these
committees. Ryan sits on the University council and they are currently working on the Quest
for Extinction Plan. There is a website that you can go to and let us know your ideas.
Please go to this website and let us know if you have any feedback! The website is
future.vcu.edu.
c.
Localist Discussion – Chairman Andrew Thune
i. Andrew had an online meeting with Tom Nelson who works with the Localist. He wants to
create an event page for us that has trending events that would be going on at our campus.
You can add events and see who is going to an event or who is not. Any organization can
use this website. Different schools use this kind of website and he can tailor this website to
however we would like. It would be a great way to show where all events are taking place at
or what events are even taking place in a given day. This website would replace the VCU
calendar of events. He wants to know if we think the students would use it. It would help
students become more involved in school events. It would cost about $1.50 per student.
