Year 4 Team • Miss Elvin and Mrs Howell 4EH ( Lions) • Mrs Moore 4LM ( Jaguars) Curriculum The Highlights • Topics – Ancient Egyptians, Vikings, Mountains, Anglo-Saxons, European country France • Science – All living things, Animals, including humans, States of matter, Sound and Electricity Literacy and Maths Literacy • Story writing: Historical stories, Imaginary worlds, issue and dilemmas, stories from other cultures • Play scripts • Poetry • Information books • Recounts – diaries and newspapers Maths • Counting, place value and calculating • Shape and space, including time and measuring • Statistics • Roman numerals • Timestable facts to 12 x 12. Environment • The two Year 4 classrooms are located by the Y3/4 cloakroom and Tammy’s Office. • Lunch boxes are put outside the classroom • Coats, bags and PE kits are to be left in the cloakroom (all need to be labelled) • Please keep your book bags from Year 3 to use in Year 4. Book bags are kept in tubs in the classroom or on pegs in the cloakroom. Daily Routine • 8.45 Children should be entering the school. • In the morning Literacy and Mathematics will take place. • 11.00 – 11.15 Break time – Children should have a healthy snack like fruits, crackers, dried fruits, yoghurts but not chocolate, crisps e.t.c • 12.15 – 1.10 Lunch Time – Children have their lunch in the Oaks Hall or in the Acorns Hall if they have a hot school meal • 3.15 – End of the day – children will be taken out to the playground for parents to meet them. Expectations • We have high expectations of your children in terms of the presentation of their work and the basic skills. • We expect homework to be of a high standard. • Children should be reading at home every day. • Children should know their times tables and be practising these up to 12x12. • Detentions at lunch time will be given for any child who has not met our basic expectations. Our school uniform is: • Black trousers/skirt/Green summer dress • Jade green Polo top with the school logo. • Black school jumper with the school logo • Black/white socks • Black shoes (not boots, sandals, trainers or ballerina pumps) • Only one pair of small stud earrings may be worn. • http://www.clothingattesco.com/poole/hillbourne-school-andnursery/invt/134892 • Or School Uniform Shop in Poole High Street P.E Kit The P.E kit is: • Black shorts, • White Polo Shirt (not an ordinary white T-shirt) • Black tracksuit for cold weather (not their school jumper) • Black/White socks • Trainers for outdoor P.E/Games • Hairband to tie long hair back. • No Jewellery will be allowed to be worn during P.E/Games lessons What you need to know • Medicine: If your child needs medicine during school hours you need to hand this to the office and you will need to fill out a medicine form. • Inhalers: It is the parents responsibility to ensure inhalers are in date, and that if your child is asthmatic that they have an inhaler in school. In Year 4 we expect them to know how to use their inhaler. • Inhalers are kept in a Red First Aid Box in each classroom and will be taken with us on any trips. What you need to know • If your child is absent you are required to call the school office to inform them and then send a written note in with your child when they return explaining why they were absent. • If you are not collecting your child at the end of the day please send in a letter or phone the office, explaining who is collecting them. If not this may cause a delay, as we will need to go to the office to phone you and check. • If a child is not collected on time they will be sent to the after school club in the Acorns Building ( Willow Room). There will be a charge for this service. Who to contact • In the first instance please make an appointment to see the class teacher or for smaller matters a quick word when you collect your child at the end of the day from the playground. • Mrs Fogg (Year 3 & 4 Phase Leader) • Ms Roderick ( Head Teacher) How to help your child • Reading at home is essential. • Supporting your child to complete homework to a high standard. • Homework goes out on a Thursday to be collected in the following Tuesday. • Making sure that your child knows their times tables.
