STUDIO ETIQUETTE
1.
DRESS CODE- We request that students carefully
observe our dress code outlined in this handbook. Any
student not wearing proper dancewear or shoes will be
asked to sit and watch.
2. ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS– Attendance is
very important in order to receive full benefit from your
dance class. Any student who is behind because of multiple
absences may be required to enroll in a few private sessions
with their instructor to catch up to the rest of the class.
Private Sessions are not included in your tuition and are $30
per half hour, so please make sure you are attending class
regularly. Any student arriving more than 15 minutes late
will not be admitted to participate in class
3. GENERAL RULES- All students are encouraged not to
leave the room once class has begun. Please allow for
appropriate restroom use prior to class. Very young children
will be treated sensitively as the need arises. Preschool
children may need a parent’s attention from time to time for
various reasons including bathroom or behavior issues.
Please do not leave the waiting room when very young
children are in class without informing the office or having
another parent responsible during your absence. We make
every effort to have all children feel safe and cared for in a
loving and inspiring learning environment.
4. BEHAVIOR- School age children and teens: please
practice respect. Students are not to be socializing in a
disruptive manner during the class with other students.
Please come early or stay late to enjoy friends in the waiting
area. Please honor your teacher and fellow students by
giving full attention and cooperation. You will be advised if
we feel any student is not well adjusted to the classroom
environment for any reason over time. There are 2 rules in
our classroom: You Dance and Listen or You Sit and Listen.
After a verbal warning, the child will have to sit and calm
down until the specific activity is over and then join in again.
If this does not work, we will speak with the parent after
class. After 3 times speaking to the parent, the child will be
asked not to return until next season.

DRESS REHEARSAL INFORMATION
DRESS REHEARSAL FOR THE SHOW IS ABSOLUTELY
MANDATORY FOR EVERY SINGLE DANCER. PLEASE MAKE SURE
YOU MARK YOUR CALENDARS ASAP. SHOW AND REHEARSAL DAYS
ARE DURING GRADUATION SEASON SO PLEASE PLAN
ACCORDINGLY AND IN ADVANCE. DANCERS WHO DO NOT
PERFORM ON STAGE WITH THEIR CLASS MAY NOT PERFORM ON
SHOW NIGHT. TO BE FAIR TO EVERYONE, THERE ARE NEVER ANY
EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. REHEARSAL IS IN FULL COSTUME,
TIGHTS, SHOES, MAKE UP, ETC.
Dress Rehearsal is NOT open to the public. You are only required to
be there to rehearse the dances that you are in. After you perform
on dress rehearsal night, you are free to go. That will not be the
case on show night anymore.
In order to keep our yearly performance a professional one, we are
keeping all dancers backstage until the end of each show. We will
have pick up locations for parents with the appropriate ID. Parents
can now enjoy the show and the dancers on stage can stay focused
and do their best.
No one else is allowed backstage. There are NO MALES allowed
backstage. Exceptions are Male Dancers in the show and stage crew. (NO
MALES allowed in girls dressing areas at ANY time) Fathers participating in
the Father/Daughter segment will be allowed to meet their dancer
backstage just before they step on stage and then return to their seat upon
completion. Dancers will stay backstage in their chaperoned assigned room
to watch the rest of the recital. With 400 plus performers, we have to take
every measure to ensure your child’s safety. That parent/guardian with the
PROPER ID will be allowed to come backstage for costume changes.
Dancers will not be checked out of back stage holding room until the recital
has concluded. Only exceptions will be if the parent and dancer are leaving
the venue for the rest of the evening. If dancers are seen in the audience,
you will be asked to exit auditorium. There will be a live-feed video of the
recital playing backstage in the holding for our dancers to watch other
siblings/friends.

GENERAL RECITAL INFORMATION
COSTUMES:
Dancers are measured “in-house” by Ms. Kelli in early November.
Ms. Kelli measures “up” because of many growth spurts in all of our kids. Costumes are made to
order and each Costume Company has their own sizing chart we must follow. Costumes come in
General sizes. SC-MC, etc. Please be aware that costumes made need alterations on many of
our dancers. Costume costs do not include the cost of possible alterations. There will be a
seamstress in the building during costume-try on week. She is awesome, convenient, and very
reasonable. Tights and accessories will be included with costume. We suggest purchasing a
backup pair of tights just in case. Most dance costumes are made so that undergarments are
not needed. Underwear showing underneath a costume on stage (especially on little dancers) is
very unbecoming. We cannot make this a mandatory rule for our recreational dancers and
realize that some of you may not abide by this rule. In that case, please plan ahead for nude
seamless undergarments, (they come in little dancer sizes too) Please do NOT let your dancer
wear “regular” everyday underwear. NO undergarment should show under your costume. Bras
may be necessary in some costumes for older girls and will be allowed at the teachers’
discretion.
Class Pictures: Class and Individual Pictures will be taken in April this
season. All group shots will be featured in our yearbook program! Pictures are taken typically
during your normal class time and require hair, make-up, etc. Dance Classes are not held during
picture week. Parents are not allowed inside the room where pictures are taken.
Class DVD’s and CD’s- NEW THIS YEAR!! Class choreography DVD’s
and CD’s will be sold to help with rehearsing for the show. CD’s will be available in January and
DVD’s in March. $5 for CD and $10 for DVD.
RECITAL SHIRTS: Annual recital t-shirts are available to dancers and
parents beginning in May. T shirts are $15 for one and $25 for 2. You can pre order and pay for
shirts during Costume Try on Week. This will ensure that you receive a shirt as they are not
available after the show. All recital shirts have “your dancers” name printed on them, as well as
the entire cast list. They are a great
keepsake!
RECITAL PROGRAM
Every person that has a ticket for one of our shows will receive a Program Book free
of charge. Each Dancer will receive a Program/Yearbook on Show Week. This program will serve
as the (one) of the programs you will receive for your 2 complimentary tickets. We will be
selling ¼, 1/2, and Full Page ads to anyone who wishes to send luck to their dancer. Forms will
be given out during Costume Try On Week and ads are due no later than May 1.
SHOW OFF WEEK: Show OFF Week will happen the week directly before
the show. During regular class times, (although optional) every dancer is encouraged to wear
their KDX Recital shirt to be uniform with the class. Each dancer will receive a Complimentary
Program Book in Class. There will be a “My Recital” page to fill in the name of the studio, song
name, costume colors, style of dance, friends in my class, etc. for dancer/parents to fill out.
There will also be an Autograph
page where dancers can get “autographs” from other dancers in their class (or
dancers/assistants) they admire! Classes will “Show Off” for other classes and then receive their
Program. This will also give the parents ample time to study the program order to tell friends
and family. (Parents of little dancers are encouraged to come into class during Show OFF Week
to help their children)
AWARDS WEEK:
All students will receive their Medals and Trophies THE WEEK
(1st Year Students
year and up students receive a trophy)
AFTER THE SHOW during class time. Parents and Cameras are welcome.
receive a Medal and 2
nd
SHOW TICKETS: Each dancer will receive 4 complimentary tickets for the
recital. Each additional ticket will be $8.00 per ticket at the studio and $10 per ticket at the
door. Tickets will not be sold to anyone who has a past due balance on their tuition account.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on May 1st and if available, will be sold at $7 per ticket at
the door. Every ticket comes with a yearbook/program! Assigned seating should make for a very
pleasant show this year. Our children deserve the best!
STARS- Stars can be purchased beginning April 1 for your special dancer. Stars
are special shout outs dancers can receive backstage after their performance. They are $1 a
piece and you get to fill out a personalized message to your dancer. Anyone can send them
(grandparents, cousins, fellow dancers, etc.) Let’s see how many “stars” your dancer gets this
season!
SHOW DVD’s- KDX will once again be hiring a Professional
Videographer to record all of our shows. You will have plenty of time to
order Recital DVD’s and we hope to also have them for sale at each show.
THEATRE ETIQUETTE:
NO DANCERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SIT IN THE AUDITORIUM DURING THEIR

DANCERS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THEIR FRIENDS OR SIBLINGS DANCE.

strongly encouraged.
