2009 Competition Rules
All dancers, parents, instructors and/or family members are expected to abide by all rules at all times during
the competition. It is the responsibility of the Studio’s Instructor/Independent Entry to review all rules.
Level Description:
Recreational – Practices 5 hours or less per week.
Competitive – Practices more than 5 hours per week.
Age Divisions: To figure out what age division your group will compete in; average each dancer’s age
together. Add the ages of all dancers in the group and divide by the total # of dancers. Use the dancer’s age as
of the day of the competition. Be prepared to verify ages of dancer/s if disputed or dancer/s will be
automatically disqualified.
Dance Type Description:
Acrobatics – Acrobatic moves.
Clogging – Any type of clogging old fashion/modern/contemporary.
Hip Hop – Street type dance/moves.
Jazz – Jazz moves/technique (Kicks, splits, isolation)
Tap - Tap steps/technique.
Lyrical – Using balance, flexibility and control to express the mood of music
Pointe – Pointe technique with classical steps
Ballet – No acrobatic moves allowed in ballet routines. Must be ballet movements.
Open – Any combination of any types of dance.
Cheer – Cheerleading technique may include jumps, leaps and vocal.
Time Limits: Solo, Duet/Trios, Groups – Limited not to exceed 4 mins
If solos, duets/trios or groups exceed the time limit they may be subjected to points deducted.
Judging: Each studio/independent entry will receive a copy of the judges score sheets after each award
ceremony. ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL No Exceptions!
Refunds: No refunds will be given on any entry fees.
Cameras: No cameras allowed in the auditorium. Professional photographer will be on hand taking pictures.
Deadline: All entries must be postmarked by 4/20
Props: Props will be the responsibility of the studio/independent entry. They will need to be discussed with
the director before the competition to make plans to accommodate.
Scale: Competitive – Platinum 300-280 High Gold 279-263 Gold 262-248 High Silver 247-235
Recreational – Platinum 300-275 High Gold 274 -258 Gold 257-243 High Silver 242-230
Line Up: All entries are expected to line up 15 mins prior to their scheduled time to perform. Late line up may
result in points deducted.
Conduct: All dancers, instructors and family members are expected to show good sportsmanship. The
directors reserve the right to disqualify any entry for bad sportsmanship conduct.
Photogenic: Must be an 8x10 or smaller. No mats allowed only covers. 9 & Under 10 & Over
Overall Costume: The group/independent with the highest score in the costume category on the score sheet.

Competition Schedules: Will be given out the week before the competition.
