POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern oversees all technical and
production needs of Western TV that provides news and entertainment to the Western
community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Develop a functional relationship with Western Productions Intern in-order to work
together on all phases of a project.
2) Provide training sessions to Western TV members in all aspects of video production and
post-production.
3) Provide volunteer opportunities for students in production and post-production, including
but not limited to editing, filming, and set production.
4) Ensure high level of production quality in Western TV content.
5) Research new equipment, software, and technology to overcome limitations and increase
production and workflow quality.
6) Develop a plan of action or best practices for efficient workflow during productions
7) Be a technical producer of all Western TV content and oversee all technical aspects of its
creation.
8) Ensure that all content on Western TV is in-line with the USC mission and remains
relevant to students
9) Work with the USC Productions Department on all technical aspects of the Western TV
Live show and/or other live events.
10) Maintain the Western TV YouTube channel.
11) Maintain the Western TV Facebook page for communication with and scheduling of
volunteers.
12) Assists the Western TV Production Intern to develop a capital plan for Western TV and
apply it to the Media Capital Fund in anticipation of the program.
13) Work with the USC Productions Department to plan and record interviews with prominent
guests and performers; plan and conduct interviews with candidates during the USC
Presidential Election period; and produce the Election Results Show.
14) Ensure that Western TV equipment and studio space is kept in good order and up-to-date.
15) Complete a final report at the end of the winter academic term (April).

QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Interpersonal Communication: The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern
position requires strong interpersonal communication skills, given the need to work
concurrently with a number of project stakeholders. Ability to provide constructive
feedback to project stakeholders and communicate expectations effectively through written
and oral mediums.
(2) Project Management: The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will act as
project manager for all the projects incumbent upon the Promotions Manager to
accomplish. Strong organizational and time management skills are paramount to the
success of these projects. The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern should
be flexible, able to critically assess and troubleshoot problems and demonstrate effective
problem solving in the role.
(3) Group Facilitation: In leading the Executive Committee, the Western TV Videography /
Post-Production Intern should have effective group facilitation skills to ensure a positive
and productive experience for all members. Willing to utilize a diverse range of team
member skills, recognizes how team members can serve to complement one another. Able to
effectively facilitate team decision-making processes, especially when navigating
collaborative creativity among team members. Fosters team culture that supports
consensus building and the development of its members.
(4) Technical Skills: The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern should have
strong technical and operating knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Audition,
Illustrator, Photoshop and the Canon Rebel TI series. The Western TV Production Intern
should be proficient in basic video editing, filming and production management.
(5) General: The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern should have previous
experience working or volunteering with the Western TV program. The Western TV
Productions / Post-Production Intern should have knowledge of the structure of the USC
and its operations and services.

TIME COMMITMENT:
(1) This position requires a commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per week with some
increase during peak times such as Orientation Week and the Elections period.
(2) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern shall participate in the transition
of responsibilities with their successor in the months preceding the end of their term.

TRAINING/SUPPORT:
(1) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will be required to attend all
USC-mandated training sessions for Interns, as determined by Promotions Manager and
the USC Human Resources Department.
(2) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will be expected to attend a
mandatory Health and Safety training seminar conducted at the beginning of their term.
(3) Throughout their term, the Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will have
the opportunity to strengthen their leadership, critical thinking, project management, and
communication skills through professional development workshops and experiential

learning facilitating by the USC Promotions Manager.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
(1) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will learn how to develop effective
group facilitation skills in addition to becoming more proficient in supervising and
managing volunteers.
(2) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will gain a thorough
understanding of and experience in developing content and the production of a regular
television program.
(3) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will become familiar with ethical
and legal issues relevant to reporting in the media.

COMMUNITY IMPACT:
(1) The Western TV program provides an educational impact for students and keeps students
and the Western community informed on important issues and events on campus. The
video productions of Western TV have the ability to shape the impression others have of
the Western community.
(2) The Western TV program serves as an experiential learning opportunity for students who
have future aspirations of pursuing work in journalism, broadcasting or post-production.

EVALUATION
(3) Formative Assessment: The Promotions Manager will maintain an ongoing and open dialogue
of informal feedback with the Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern. This
informal process of feedback will be completed on-the-job and will aid in identifying
learning needs for successful task completion. This will allow for instructional guidance in
learning a new skill and being able to execute assigned tasks and projects successfully. This
type of feedback goes both ways so as to allow the Western TV Videography / PostProduction Intern to obtain a meaningful experience while also informing the USC
Promotions Manager about any specific learning and development goals they hope to
achieve.
(4) Summative Assessment: There will be three formal feedback surveys conducted throughout
the Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern’s employment. These surveys are
to provide the Intern with the ability to articulate their experiences so far and to evaluate
their program to identify any learning opportunities they would like to participate in. The
second aspect of the summative assessment is formally conducted by the USC Promotions
Manager to evaluate all strengths, any necessary improvements and communicate future
projects with the Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern. This collaborative
assessment will allow for all involved to communicate how the experience has been so far
and to evaluate the overall job performance.

10.00 SUPERVISION:
(1) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern will report directly to the
Promotions Manager at the University Students’ Council at Western University. The
Promotions Manager can be contacted at 519-661-2111 ext. 82760. Their office is located
on the second floor, room 267a in the University Community Center at Western
University.
(2) The Western TV Videography / Post-Production Intern’s primary support for all
coordination and payroll purposes will be the Human Resources Coordinator at the
University Students’ Council at Western University. The Human Resources Coordinator
can be contacted at 519-661-2111 ext. 87585, and their office is located on the third floor,
Room 311, in the University Community Center at Western University.
11.00 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
(1) A familiarity with the political and organizational structure of the USC and an
understanding of its services and operations is an asset but not required.
(2) A familiarity with the Western and London community and engagement is integral to being
successful in this role.
(3) An Individual who is enthusiastic about making a difference and learning new challenges
will benefit from this experience.
