a. Keep a food journal and compare an individual’s diet to nutritional recommendations for their
respective age, gender, and activity level and health status. b. Write a summary of the findings and
include conclusions drawn on recommendations of how the diet could be modified to make up for
deficiencies and surpluses. (TN CCSS Reading 9; TN CCSS Writing 4; FACS 9, 14)
Steps for Completion
To begin this you will need to take some of the information previously attained from analyzing the
website www.choosemyplate.gov and identify needs that are specific to your daily needs. You will
place this finished work in your portfolio behind the Food Journal section of your portfolio.
Steps to completing this assignment:
1. Go to www.choosemyplate.gov
2. Click on the Super tracker in the middle of the page

3. Create a profile—you will have to remember your log in information, be sure to write it
somewhere.

4. Go to the tab My Plan- this will be the specific amounts of each nutrient and physical activity
that you need.
5. Print out this page- Make sure that you change the printer settings to landscape and print on
both sides of the page.
6. Place in your portfolio.
7. Record everything that you eat for 3 days and all physical activity in this time frame.
8. Be specific with your records it will make it easier when you put the information in the food
tracker.

9. Track the meals that you recorded by going to Track Food
10. Track Your Activity Tab- Record your food intake and your exercise information in the tracker.

11. After tracking all information, compare this information with the guidelines from My Plan in #3.
12. Write a 1 page summary of the findings and include conclusions drawn on recommendations of
how the diet can be modified to make up for deficiencies and surpluses.
13. Submit your summary to Dropittome for grading.
14. Save work as Myplan_(lastname class period) Ex. Myplan_barnes4th

15. Place all completed parts of the assignment in your portfolio.
16. Finished assignment due Wednesday 9/24. There will be LIMITED class time to work on this
assignment.
