About Julie Andrews
Julie Andrews has been a beloved and much-honored star of stage, screen and television for
more than half a century. She was already a Broadway legend when she made her feature
film debut in 1964’s “Mary Poppins.” Andrews’ iconic performance in the title role of the
magical nanny brought her an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award. The
following year, she earned a second Oscar® nomination and won another Golden Globe
Award for her unforgettable portrayal of Maria Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music.” She
received her third Academy Award® nomination and won another Golden Globe Award for her
“dual” role in “Victor/Victoria.” Today’s young film audiences may be more familiar with
Andrews as a queen trying to train her teenaged granddaughter to be a princess in the hit
films, “The Princess Diaries,” and its sequel, “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal
Engagement.” Andrews also voiced the character of Queen Lillian in the blockbuster hits
“Shrek 2,” and “Shrek the Third.” More recently, she voiced the narration of the hugely
successful Disney release of “Enchanted.” In 2010, Ms. Andrews added to her multigenerational appeal with the release of films – “The Tooth Fairy,” “Shrek Goes Fourth,” and
“Despicable Me.” Her earlier motion picture credits also include “The Americanization of
Emily,” “Hawaii,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Star” “Darling Lili,” and “10,” to name only a
few.
About The Sound of Music
The hugely successful 1965 musical film, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer
was directed by Robert wise and based on the 1959 Broadway Musical of the same name. It
tells the story of a young postulant, Maria who leaves her convent to become a governess to
seven children of a widowed Austrian navel captain. The film won five academy awards and
two golden globes and was a box-office hit, currently ranked as the third highest grossing film
in the American box office. It’s soundtrack3 of iconic songs, including “The Sound of Music,”
“My Favourite Things” and “Edelweiss” have undoubtedly contributed to the film’s longevity.

About The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
The concept of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre arose back in 1992. Mike Adamson CEO of
Live Nation Ireland and 3Arena was constantly being asked by the producers of Ballet,
Opera, Drama and Musicals about staging their productions in Dublin. During this time, a
restricted amount of large scale theatre productions were being staged at 3Arena such as
Cats, Bolshoi Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera,
Glyndebourne Opera and Mamma Mia. It soon became obvious that the demand for theatre
productions surpassed the weeks available in any given year at 3Arena. In 2001, the concept
of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre became a reality during discussions with Peter Coyne
(CEO) and Grainne Hollywood (Property Director) of the Dublin Docklands Development
Authority (DDDA). Peter and Grainne wanted an iconic building at Grand Canal Square in the
Docklands. The DDDA were seeking ideas for this location and Live Nation presented the
concept of a 2,000 seating capacity theatre to include a classic three tier theatre auditorium.
The DDDA had found what they were looking for and the vision was complete and the story of
the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre truly began. The DDDA & Live Nation appointed world
renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, theatre architects RHWL and Developer Chartered
Land to design and build this landmark building.
The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre would not have been feasible without the support of the Dublin
Docklands Development Authority. Joe O’Reilly of Chartered Land passionately embraced
the project as the developer of the theatre along with other Daniel Libeskind buildings around
the Grand Canal Square. The theatre was purchased in 2014 by Crownway Investments – a
private equity company owned by John and Bernie Gallagher. The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
commenced building in January 2007 and the curtain rose for its inaugural performance on
March 18th 2010 with The Russian State Ballet featuring stars from the Bolshoi performing
Swan Lake. Since opening, we have entertained half a million theatre goers every year,
presenting something for everyone via a very diverse programme of theatrical experiences to
meet everyone’s passion and interests including ballets, musicals, family shows, drama,
concerts, comedy, orchestral and opera.
About Ticketsolve
Ticketsolve worked closely with Stimare to integrate Ticketsolve's scanning and ticketing
features. The new scanning feature is a move forward from traditional one direction scanning
(scanning on paper), to two direction scanning. This two direction scanning capability means
that tickets can be scanned directly from mobile devices. Patrons no longer needed to bring a
printed copy of their ticket to shows. Sitmare two direction scanners are currently being used
on large scale events and show such as large scale concerts and sporting events. Ticketsolve
is bringing this two direction scanning of QR codes to all of its customers, allowing for faster
and more secure entry into events, and a smoother patron experience overall.
The Festival is supported by The Arts Council, The Irish Film Board, Jameson, The Irish
Times, Entertainment.ie, RTE Radio One, Toyota, The Merrion Hotel, Wells Cargo,
Cineworld, The Church and Windmill Lane.
