Whilst problems with benefits remain the largest driver of foodbank use, there has been an increase in numbers referred due to low income in the last year.
‘Low income’ referrals have grown from 20 percent in 2013/14 to 22 percent of all referrals in 2014/15. Foodbank managers reported that clients who are in work are struggling with insecure work, low wages and high living costs.

• Extra help & support for the underlying cause of the crisis e.g. welfare benefits advice, advocacy, debt advice, finance
& budgetary training and support
• Preventative measures, e.g. budgeting, EWSL
• Campaigning & public affairs working with governments to be the one of voices on all things poverty….

Financial and Debt Advice at Foodbanks
• In 2014, we piloted an innovative new foodbank service set up with substantial donation from
Money Saving Expert’s Martin Lewis.
• Foodbanks partnered with local debt and money management charities to give foodbank clients professional financial and debt advice at the point of crisis.
• A Comic Relief grant this year has enabled us to make this new service available to all foodbanks across the network.
• A 6 week course designed for people on low incomes that teaches basic cookery, nutrition and budgeting skills.
• After a pilot in Salisbury, we are rolling out a trial across 28 foodbanks, funded by Unilever, supported by a more than Food Co-ordinator.
Holidays put extra pressure on families who are already struggling. More than simply feeding children and parents, we want to offer healthy breakfasts and lunches with activities, team-building games, cooking demos, self esteem building exercises, and important opportunities for family bonding. We have just secured a £100k grant from the Innocent Foundation to combat holiday hunger.
• Trussell Trust will employ circa 300 employees
• There will be 400 foodbanks and 2000 foodbank centres
• Its expected that the Fundraising team will have to generate £6 million and the charity will require £9 million of income to cover core costs per annum.
• There will be 5 regional hubs operating across the UK
• HQ offices will be in bigger premises in Salisbury
• Trussell Trust will be one of the leading charities in the
UK to effectively challenge poverty and transform lives.

Tea for Trussell is an exciting new idea which gets people together to share time, have a chat and try a range of teas, as well as raise some funds for the Trussell Trust. It’s easy – all you have to do is:
• Host a tea party amongst your friends or at your workplace.
• Get creative. Bake some delicious treats and brew some tea . But don’t just stop there; why not add to the fun by holding a raffle, competition, treasure hunt or sweep stake during your Tea for Trussell party, or you could even make it crafty by selling some items as well.
• Donate. Ask your friends and colleagues to come along and make a donation.
• Share. Send the money in and help us spread the word by sharing the photos from your event on facebook.
