CHURCHES TOGETHER IN FLEET AND CROOKHAM Sharing God’s love in the community A feast for the soul This year’s Environment & Faith festival has a temptingly tasty food theme linking with the traditional harvest celebrations and the natural beauty of the changing seasons. Churches, schools and many local voluntary organizations have poured in their time and expertise to create an exciting programme of 22 events over 4 weeks this autumn. Starting on Friday 20th September the programme includes orchards, honeybees, fair-trade beer, school vegetable growing and a composting workshop. Other wider environmental issues such as greening our local churches, trade justice and recycling are also on the menu. The festival ends this year on the 19th October with a community volunteering day in Fleet Town Centre. The festival aims at getting people talking, thinking about and acting on local and global environmental issues. We have a wide range of speakers including Christian academic and community activist Ruth Valerio talking about food and faith, and Fleet’s own Colin Gray talking about the excellent restoration work at Fleet Pond. Whether you have some faith or none we hope there is something for you. So they often need to work together - and to co-ordinate the work they each do separately. When they do, they are acting as Churches Together. But being Churches Together means more than that. It means commitment by each church and denomination to deepen its fellowship with the others, and - without losing what makes each interestingly different - to work with them towards a greater visible unity. Hart Foodbank The Trussell Trust foodbank network works in partnership with local churches and organisations to bring foodbanks to communities across the UK. There are now over 275 foodbanks in the network. http://hart.foodbank.org.uk/
