What determines the type of movement that may occur. Articulation or joint exist wherever 2 bones meet and structure of the joint determines the type of movement that may occur. page 165. Concept and Skill Development and Application/Guided/Independent/Group Practice: LESSON FORMAT: Completion of the labeling of the skull, use ELMO; Ensure proper labeling. Continue with PowerPoint articulations ASSIGNMENT: Create a chart in your notebook describing the different types of synovial joints: gliding, hinge, pivot, ellipsoidal, saddle, and ball and socket joints. Info: movement, description and example, page 170-172 HOMEWORK: Closure/Long-Term Review/Assessment: OUT: Name the three types of articulations and explain each of them. Synarthoses-immoveable ex. suture, Amphiarthroses-slightly moveable ex. symphysis and Diarthroses or Synovial joints-freely moveable ex. ball and socket. Concept and Skill Development and Application/Guided/Independent/Group Practice: LESSON FORMAT: Complete quiz; go over movements of the body(ex. adduction, pronation, etc.) ASSIGNMENT: complete quiz; Complete joint activity-cut out and create a paper version of joints HOMEWORK: Closure/Long-Term Review/Assessment: OUT: Skeletal bones store energy reserves as lipids in an area called________. Yellow marrow. Explain. A joint cannot be both highly mobile and very strong. The greater the mobility, the weaker the joint, because mobile joints rely on support from muscles and ligaments rather than solid bone-to-bone contact. Concept and Skill Development and Application/Guided/Independent/Group Practice: LESSON FORMAT: Discuss differences in male and female skeletons; Use book and other resources to complete packet; assist with understanding terms. ASSIGNMENT: Complete packet, complete index cards for skeletal system. HOMEWORK: Closure/Long-Term Review/Assessment: OUT: Elaborate on the significance of the fact that the pubic symphysis is a slightly moveable joint. The slight move ability of the pubic symphysis joint facilitates childbirth by spreading the pelvis to ease movement of the baby through the birth canal.
