Parent Orientation Shannon Stevenson PPCD Teacher Morton Ranch Elementary Thursday September 5th 2013 PPCD (Pre-school Program for Children with Disabilities) • Every child in here has a label through special education that qualifies them for this service • PPCD is a literal melting pot of different labels NCEC non- categorical early childhood with a suspicion of….. AU (autism)/PDD (pervasive ID developmental (intellectual delay disability) ED OHI (other (emotional health disturbance) VI (visual impairment) impairment) SI (speech Impairment) LD (Learning disability) Moral of the Story… “Remember where you have been and where you are going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.” ~Nikita Koloff My Philosophy • A good preschool curriculum focuses on all areas of development (sensory, social/play, communication, academic, and gross/fine motor skills) • All children need ACCESS to their curriculum • All children need to EXPLORE their curriculum in a hands on way • All children need a way to COMMUNICATE with others • All children need to play and SOCIALIZE with others • I believe in setting limits and being CONSISTENT • All children respond to structure, schedules, repetition, and ROUTINE • I believe the before a child can learn anything else, they need to learn HOW TO LEARN (to sit, attend, participate) • I believe PARENTS are a critical part of the learning experience. Skills at school need to be reinforced at home. Shannon Stevenson a.k.a.
