Moral of the Story…
“Remember where you have
been and where you are
going. Life is not a race, but
a journey to be savored each
step of the way.” ~Nikita Koloff
My Philosophy
• A good preschool curriculum focuses on all areas of development
(sensory, social/play, communication, academic, and gross/fine
motor skills)
• All children need ACCESS to their curriculum
• All children need to EXPLORE their curriculum in a hands on way
• All children need a way to COMMUNICATE with others
• All children need to play and SOCIALIZE with others
• I believe in setting limits and being CONSISTENT
• All children respond to structure, schedules, repetition, and
ROUTINE
• I believe the before a child can learn anything else, they need to
learn HOW TO LEARN (to sit, attend, participate)
• I believe PARENTS are a critical part of the learning experience.
Skills at school need to be reinforced at home.

Routine/repetition
• Circle consists of same things every week:
theme, weather, calendar, letter, story, color,
shape, number, Matt & Molly
• Schedule follows same routine as much as
possible
• Visual cues/schedules used EVERYWHERE
• Even order for lining up and bathroom
• Don’t they get bored???
Rotations specifics
• Fine Motor/Art(DAILY): Ms. Jo will work on
tracing, coloring, stacking/put in/connect, art
projects weekly
• Reading/Math (DAILY): Ms. Mary will work on
letter sounds, letter ID, Number ID, counting,
shapes, colors
• Independent Station(2-3X a week): Ms.
Shannon will work on assessments, work jobs,
and individual goals pertaining to the IEP
Documentation
• Weekly reports are a two ply copy. I keep the
yellow copy you get the originals on Friday unless
a short week…then Mondays
• Your child’s goals are attached with A, B, C, D
• This form is in the process of being updated
amongst a committee of PPCD
teachers/supervisors. However, it was not
approved to go on line so it will still be a paper
copy
• This system of prompts/ plus or minus is how I
collect data for the 9 weeks
IEP progress report/attendance
• Every 9 weeks you will receive an IEP progress
report. It will go home the same day report
cards do in elementary…see attached
schedule. Every area that pertains to that goal
will be notated with a mastery level (ie 13/15
trials, less than 2, 85%) and a date.
• You will also receive at attendance report that
has to be signed and returned.
Behavior Management
• Accommodations: Using things that help them access the
curriculum to be successful: visual schedules/cues,
headphones, different chairs, reinforcers, deep pressure,
sensory brushes, vary lighting, FIRST/THEN
• Keeping it Positive! Positive! Positive! With LOTS of CHOICE
and CONSISTENCY!!!
• Refocus/peace area: Get their mind on something else
(drink of water, walk around, different activity). Use
conscious discipline strategies.
• Think Time: sitting out for length of age (3 yr old=3 min)
• See copy of toolkit for consistent response to negative
behavior

• Obviously you can change these things to
modify your needs at home but it is a good
starting point.

developmentally ready and he/she is 4 on or before
