Wydale Hall A Prayerful Community Renewing The Church’s Mission BEDROOM HOUSEKEEPER – JOB DESCRIPTION JANUARY 2016 Context Wydale Hall is the Retreat and Conference Centre for the York Diocese of the Church of England. The main thrust of the new vision of the centre is to be a prayerful community Renewing The Church’s Mission. Wydale Hall is much more than a venue – it is a resource for the Church nation-wide and a place of rest, recuperation, training and development. Many different groups use Wydale Hall and the Emmaus Centre. The majority of these are Christian and use the centre for conferences, quiet days, retreats and training events. Some bookings come from the secular commercial market and the Hall welcomes individual guests as well. Having the bedrooms of the house clean, tidy and ready for guests is key to the ministry of Wydale Hall and to that end we are seeing to recruit a part-time Bedroom Housekeeper. The Line Manager for this post is the Assistant Manager of Wydale Hall and the Senior Line Manager is the General Manager of Wydale Hall. Salary: Hours: Leave: Living Wage (currently £8.25 per hour) 20 hours per week which will include weekend work. 9am to 1pm each working day. 100 hours per annum pro rata plus bank holidays (it is expected the Bedroom Housekeeper will need to work at Christmas and Easter) The post will be based at Wydale Hall, Brompton by Sawdon, Scarborough. MAIN FUNCTION OF THE POST To keep the bedrooms of the Wydale Hall and the Emmaus Centre clean and tidy and to prepare them daily for the arrival of guests. On change-over days to service rooms thoroughly. On non-change-over days to service thoroughly those rooms as requested by guests. To be available to deal with any non-standard room servicing as required. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1 Servicing 1.1 Access booking details and guest requirements on computerised system. 1.2 Cleaning and servicing the bedrooms at Wydale and the Emmaus Centre as required as outlined above and below. This includes lifting and moving furniture as required. 1.3 Cleaning regime will include changing beds, changing towels, toilet and bathroom cleaning, hoovering, dusting, polishing, emptying bins, general clearing up, re-stocking drinks and biscuits. 2. Room Maintenance 2.1 Reporting of any maintenance issues to the Maintenance Worker and/or Assistant Manager/General Manager. 2.2 Placing of any signs or instructions in the rooms. 2.3 Collection and re-stocking of the evaluation sheets for the General Manager. 2.4 Maintaining the laundry supplies, liaising with the Assistant Manager on laundry orders, preparing laundry for collection and sorting after delivery. 3. Health and Safety 3.1 In conjunction with other members of staff to be aware of and responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and Diocesan policies relating to Fire, Hygiene, Health and Safety and Safeguarding. To act upon any discrepancies which may come to your attention within your area of responsibility and highlight to the Assistant/General Manager any discrepancies which you feel are beyond your remit. 3.2 To be fully aware of all Health and Safety procedures in place at Wydale Hall 3.3 To attend and as appropriate assist in all mandatory training with regard to fire, health and safety and manual handling. 4. Customer Service 4.1 The Bedroom Housekeeper will from time to time encounter guests needing assistance. He/she will be responsible for passing on guests’ requests to the Management Team or other staff or dealing personally with guests’ requests. The Assistant/General Manager may ask the post-holder to undertake any other relevant duties appropriate to the post. The job description may be amended over time, in consultation with the post-holder, to meet the needs of the Wydale community. The Job Description will form the basis of the annual appraisal process. BEDROOM HOUSEKEEPER – PERSON SEPCIFICATION ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Experience Experience of cleaning a multiroomed property on a regular basis Demonstrable experience of bedroom housekeeping duties within a hospitality environment. Demonstrable experience of working within a retreat house and/or conference centre, Demonstrable experience in cleaning a listed building. Previous experience of a bedroom housekeeping/chamber person housekeeping role. Knowledge Up-to-date knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials. Qualifications and Training Qualifications in hotel housekeeping. Received training in cleaning related health and safety matters. Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations. Skills and Abilities A creative and flexible approach to work. Good oral communication skills. IT skills Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Good time-management skills. Ability to lift and move furniture to carry out cleaning and setting out of rooms. Personal Qualities Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a wide range of people An ability to work unsupervised, under pressure and usually on own initiative Tact and diplomacy Honesty and integrity. Circumstances Able to work flexibly within the requirements of the role, including being willing to work unsociable hours, weekends and bank holidays.
