QTAC UPDATES Applications open soon Current Year 12 students apply to QTAC through the Twelve To Tertiary (TTT) online service at www.qtac.edu.au (click ‘Online Services’) from 1 August 2012. The on-time application due date is 28 September and the ontime TTT application processing charge is $34. Higher charges apply from 1 October 2012. There have been a number of course changes since the publication of the QTAC Guide. You need to check the QTAC website at www.qtac.edu.au for up-to-date information on courses in which you are interested. As a quick 9 reference, a consolidated list of course changes is available in the 'Courses' section on the QTAC website. University of Queensland's (UQ) B Exercise and Sport Sciences/B Business Management - In 2010, the Tertiary Prerequisites publication given to Year 10 students erroneously omitted that a science subject would be a prerequisite for entry to this course in 2013. The prerequisites for this dual program should have been listed as 'English (4, SA); Maths A, B or C (4, SA); one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (4, SA)'. In good faith, students completing Australian Year 12 in 2012 without the science prerequisite will be accepted for entry in 2013. However, UQ wishes to advise such applicants that they may have difficulties with their studies until the required background knowledge of science has been gained. Requirements for successful study Have a purpose We don’t usually remember things which have no importance for us. Our reasons for wanting to remember do not have to be the same as someone else’s but unless we can find some importance in remembering what we have learnt, we will be at a great disadvantage. Understand what you learn We have a far better chance of remembering topics which we clearly understand. The more we understand the less we are likely to forget. Understanding helps us to find the key points, and break work up into sections. This means it is possible to reduce the total amount of information to the minimum we really need to know. Take the time to learn Difficult work takes longer to understand. Be smart - be prepared to slow down and give it the time required. You can make up the time with easier work later on. Start revision early Early revision is a good aid to memory. If revision is left too long, the work becomes almost like new again. The more work is revised, the less time it takes next time and remembering becomes easier. 10 This item is adapted from Study Smart, Open Access Support Centre, Department of Education, Queensland, p.10.
