Children work hard and do their best at all times. Children have the correct equipment in school, ready for each lesson. Children take responsibility for looking after their own equipment and knowing where everything is. Homework is handed in on time. Homework is at a standard equal to their school work – children should take real pride in their homework presentation. Spellings and time tables are practised regularly during the week and learnt for tests. Children read regularly at home. Children take responsibility for changing their own reading book and bringing it to and from school. Thanks for all your support! The Y3/4 team Equipment Homework Please ensure that your child is fully equipped for school. Please label each item to help the children take responsibility for looking after their own equipment and not lose them. Spellings: For this half term spellings will follow the same format where we will give the children the rule to learn but without any suggested words. Children will need to apply the rule to their own words. Weekly spelling lists are given out on a Friday and tested the following Friday. Children should complete the spelling list sheet and write sentences for each spelling word underneath, in their Homework books. Books are to be returned Wednesday. Spellings may also be found and practised via school the website depending on activity. Presentation should follow the guide in the front of the book: blue pen for all writing; handwriting neat (and joined whenever possible). Reading: Please aim for children to read reading stage books and/or library books with an adult at least 3 times a week. Please record reading sessions in the Reading Record books. These records can also be used to inform us how well your child’s reading is getting on, if they are struggling with anything, etc. Asking questions to see how much the children have understood or taken in will have the best impact on their reading. Children can vary what they read, e.g. their own books, newspapers, magazines, comics, e-books. Children need to read both fiction and non-fiction. Times tables: The aim is for children to be able to recall their times tables off by heart and quickly. This is the expectation in the Maths curriculum. Children should find time to practise their times tables regularly at home – short and often is best. Children will have a chart in school to show how well they are progressing towards bronze, silver and gold stickers for each times table. A copy of this will also go in their Homework book so the children know which ones to practise more. Stationery: Pencil cases – must be slim enough to fit into a tray Blue fibre-tip pen (not biro / ballpoint) available from school Pencil Rubber Pencil sharpener Whiteboard pens (non-permanent marker) 30cm rigid ruler (bendy ones are inaccurate) Tippex/correction fluid and eraser pens are not used. School uniform jumpers, cardigans, shorts and shoes are not suitable and should not be worn for P.E. Please label each item to help the children take responsibility for looking after their own P.E. kit. All items, including shoes, should fit in a drawstring bag.
