Directions: The following centers should be completed by the end of class on Friday, May 22nd.. Each center is graded separately.
If a center is not finished or is not done
satisfactorily, points will be deducted. Take them home & complete what was not finished in class, so they will be submitted on the due date. No excuses for centers not being
completed! If you need assistance, please ask your teachers. You must be responsible. For each day that a center is late, you will lose five points. Assignments more than 3
days late may not receive any credit.
Objectives - SWBAT:


Analyze root words in Greek and Latin to aid vocabulary and comprehension to aid in reading and to improve MAP testing strategies
Gain background knowledge by reading non-fiction text (use non-fiction reading strategies) about the Middle Ages/Medieval Ages – needed for novel, King Arthur,
and PBL project
Evaluate comprehension using the targeted areas of reading weakness/goals in DRA assessment
Evaluate improvement in reading from last year and also identify areas of strength and weakness in reading comprehension through the use of reading strategies
Visualize and illustrate the geography of Europe, then and now, by creating maps
Analyze and explain ideas for PBL Medieval game through researching, brainstorming, and planning, using various resources
Create a knight’s Coat of Arms design to aid understanding of Medieval warfare and concepts in King Arthur





GUIDED READING – (MEIGH) – Greek and Latin Root Word Packet & DRA Assessment
Week 1 – Greek and Latin Root Word packet - Highlight and number each part of the directions as noted on each page of the
packet. This will help you remember to answer all part of the question. Complete each page by following the
directions. Bonus activities will earn extra credit as noted on each page.
Week 2 – DRA - Use your Reading Logs to help you to complete the Reading Summary. (Follow the directions on the
accompanying page. It will help define some of the vocabulary words you may not know.) Teacher will also begin
the DRA assessment by asking students to read and complete the comprehension packet.
LITERACY – (MEIGH) – Background on “The Middle Ages” (double-sided) & DRA Assessment

Week 1 –
Skim The Medieval World book using the table of contents, glossary, index, pictures, captions, and bold headings on each page.
Complete the ABC Summary graphic organizer using The Medieval World by writing a word or phrase, associated with the
Medieval Ages/Middle Ages, for each letter in the alphabet. Write as many words as you can for each letter; it is double-sided.
Copy the three (3) titles noted on the center folder: 1. Medieval Times 2. Middle Ages 3. The Age of Chivalry. These terms all
describe this time period.
*The books cannot go home. This will expose you to background information vital for the novel and PBL.
Week 2 –
DRA - Use your Reading logs to help you to complete the Reading Summary. (Follow the directions on the accompanying page. It
will help define some of the vocabulary words you may not know.) Teacher will also begin the DRA assessment by asking students
to read and complete the comprehension packet.
TECHNOLOGY/WRITING – (POBUTA) – (PBL) Medieval Video Game: Research & Development – WK1 & WK2
Week 1 – Due Friday, May 15th: Video Game Research - Research an already existing medieval video game, to be exposed to
basic video game concepts. This will also give you more Medieval background for your original video game. More
specific directions are on the paper provided. Use the links to answer the questions given.
Week 2 – Due Friday, May 22nd: Video Game Planning - For your original PBL video game, plan your original ideas on the
graphic organizer.
SOCIAL STUDIES – (POBUTA) – WK1: Two Maps & WK2: Coat of Arms Design

Week 1 –
(A) Europe Map, 500 AD - The map on page 351 in the BLUE history textbook is needed as a guide. Complete the map of Europe,
from the year 500 AD. Shade in the 7 different kingdoms. Label the 16 different tribe names outside the colored kingdoms. Label
the Atlantic Ocean and seas. Label the cities of Rome and Constantinople. Write an appropriate map title. Fill in the map key.
(B) Europe Map, 2015 - Complete the modern map of Europe, only labeling countries #’s 1-16. Use p. 798 & 800 in textbook. Any
other map can be used as a reference also.
Week 2 – Create a coat of arms shield, with meaning and color. Follow the specific directions given. Use one of the templates
provided by the teacher.
