What caused the plague ? • People in medieval times had very little scientific understanding, and did not know the true cause of the disease. • They came up with a range of ‘reasons’ why this pestilence had come amongst them….many of these ideas will appear silly to us in the 21st century. What caused the plague ? Task : Produce a spider diagram to explain the various reasons for the Black Death that people in the Middle Ages believed. Write a sentence or two to explain each reason. How did they treat the Black Death ? • Without any of our modern medical knowledge, it was difficult to provide effective care for victims of the disease.
