EDITORIAL
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has been present on the hospitality market for over twenty years, but it is only today that mobility impacted the hospitality
segment infrastructure and services. Guests travel with several devices (smartphones, tablettes, PCs, etc.). They expect innovative content and services
solutions from hotels, preferring for example mobile registration and simplified reservation tool to traditional ones. From now on, services proposed by
the hospitality industry players must be adapted to welcome guests at every stage of their journey, on any device. The hospitality industry must get
connected.
According to a survey realized by Hotels.com in 28 pays, 67% of customers declare they would not return in a hotel with low-quality WiFi. Hotels must
stay updated to answer the requirements of exceedingly demanding customers.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has always been a leader on the above. Several years ago, we were the first vendor installing touchscreen room phones,
offering a truly personalized guest welcome and rich services (multimedia hotel service presentation, weather forecast,). Then, to address services
integration with guest devices, we launched the « Smart Guest Applications Suite » to allow guests full control over the room environment, temperature,
lights, blinds.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise proposes a rich range of solutions covering as well telephony, wireless, data as the cloud. Famous names of the hospitality
world trust us, as we equip hotels such as Accor, Shangri-La, Four Seasons or yet again, Club Med. Recently we have been called in by important
hospitality players to accompany them in the evolution and optimization of their telecom or data networks.
We are today the only ones on the market proposing end-to-end unified solutions, with strong differentiators and a unique guest experience. Choosing
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise means choosing expertise combining flexibility and reliability!

CONNECTIVITY: HOTELS STILL LAGGING
 With global tourism arrivals growing by 4% in the first half of 2015, an increase of 21 million compared to the same period of 2014,
according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, tourism continues to consolidate the positive performance it has shown in the
last five years *
 Global tourism revenue rose to 1,245 Billion USD in 2014, outgrowing 2013 by 48 Billion USD according to the UNWTO
 Global hotel occupancy rates show increases from 2014 to 2015 over all months **
 Facing ever growing expectations from guests for wireless connectivity and roaming costs reduction, hospitality players look at
developing digital services, especially mobile, to be able to attract foreign customers
 Three major challenges make innovation deployment a necessity in order to offer a unique guest experience and maximize investment
return :
1. The explosion of mobile guest devices impacting the way services are expected
2. The wireless connection is a basic amenity
3. High guest expectations in terms of bandwidth and security putting a lot of pressure on the networks
 According to a 2014 survey by iPass Global Mobile Workforce Report, 45% of guests travel with two devices and 40% with three or more.
74% of them want solutions that enable mobile content on their devices.
 In 2014, 82% of guests find free hotel wi-fi services limited, slow and unreliable.
 67% of business guests declare they will not return to a hotel with inadequate wireless access. These travelers will also desert hotel
restaurants and lounges where they cannot connect. Leisure travelers have the same connectivity requirements.
 Almost two thirds (62%) of business travelers require a high-speed internet connection rather than food and comfort

 MOBILITY: mobility is the biggest challenge that hospitality establishments IT Managers face. Almost 8 million
reservations have been done via mobile devices, or approx. 7% of all reservations. Mobile check-in is so widely
embraced by all age groups, that this is pushing hoteliers to see mobile check-in as a norm by 2017, as revealed by an
asset managers survey from 3,500 hotels and resorts. Most of the customers even prefer receiving mobile alerts
about rooms availability.
 WIRELSS ACCESS AND SECURITY: WiFi has been for several years a basic amenity and an essential choice and rating
criterion for hotels. Network security and access control are consequently a priority for hotel IT Managers.
 BETTER INTEGRATED AND SECURED SYSTEMS: Hoteliers know that new technologies are the wave of the future, but
worry that ineffective implementations could detract from the guest experience. A solid integration partner is key in
successful technology transitions.
 OCCUPANCY RATES: is a key hospitality business indicator. Hotels have to adapt to seasonal and changing business
volumes and IT & telecom solutions must follow.
