Instructional Writing: Ikea Furniture
Introduction:
IKEA is a multinational group of companies that designs and sells readyto-assemble furniture, appliances and home accessories. As of January
2008, it is the world's largest furniture retailer. Because Ikea’s products
are sold in many different countries with different languages, all of Ikea's
instructions come with only pictures.
Task:
For this assignment you will be given a set of instructions for the Kallax Bookshelf, sold by Ikea.
You must provide step by step written instructions that the reader would follow in order to build
that piece of furniture. You may write directly on the page.
Requirements:
a) On page 7, provide one instruction per photo bubble.
b) Provide one clear and concise instruction per numbered item.
c) You must write these instructions in the active voice, using terminology wording so that
that anyone can understand and follow them.
**You do not need to write the terminology for the hardware unless you are planning on
using it in your instructions. If you do not know the name of the hardware, refer to it by
number in your instructions.
