-Can we have the current RIOT words (spelling list)?
(See attached list)
-Can we use longer words in the book? What are some longer words the kids know?
You can use longer words. Students know the words from the R.I.O.T. word list, as well as most basic sight words
and words that you can sound out. As long as you explain what more complicated words mean, don’t worry
about using them.
-Do they like rhyming books?
Yes, they LOVE books that rhyme.
-Do they know?

-Can you name a few stories that they would be familiar with?
We read many Junie B. Junes chapter books. We read many stories by Dr. Suess, Tomie Depaola, and Eric Carle.
They love Dora stories, Clifford, and Arthur. The boys love books about dinosaurs, cars, machines, etc. Girls are
into books about horses, princesses, dancing, etc. All of them are into animals.
-Do they know what a cell is?
No. But if you want to talk about it, they would understand it in general terms. Use kid friendly language and use
lots of examples (make connections to things that are the same size or have the same job) and pictures.
-Do they know why plants are green?
No. Again, if you want to talk about this, use examples and pictures to help explain it.
