Kelsey Kevern Period 4 Pitcher What I learned First Quarter Wow I can’t believe that first quarter is already over! It went by so fast, and I learned so much in all of my classes. I have a feeling that this year is going to be a great year of learning and taking things from what I learn into taking into my future to prepare myself for the college life a future career and someday a family. I know that most seniors their senior year just want to slack off, but if you think about it you really can’t you have to work just as hard and just as much if not more to get into the right college or the one you want. You have to be willing to take the classes that are expected of you and do what you’re supposed to do, so just take one quarter at a time and you can do it. In this class this quarter I have learned a lot, and I have also appreciated the good grammar review. The reviews have helped me in so many ways that it make me happy. It has helped me by remembering what nouns, adjectives, antecedents, verbs, proper and common nouns, demonstrative, and reflexive really are and how you can use them correctly in sentences. By doing this it has helped me make my papers longer, just by adding a few words here and there really does help your paper make sense and make it longer if that is what you need. I thought it was so interesting that you could do that, I knew you could do that before, but I never took interest in it, until I had to make a paper a certain amount of pages for a few essays. I also learned about better communication with your peers. Who would have thought I would be learning about how to communicate better in a senior English class. I thought we would just be reading books and writing what we thought about that book in a question and answer essay type form. We did this by reading our essays in front of our class, to doing a thing called a quilt block where we had to present it in front of everyone showing who we really are. We also had to do some peer reviews and we had to tell the person how we really felt about their essays. Communication is very important in everyday life, we can’t live without it. If we didn’t communicate can you just imagine how awkward things would be, or I don’t know maybe we would be used to it, but by communicating you can tell who you really are. and what kind of personality you have. The plot diagram is another thing that we learned about this quarter. I already knew about it, but it was a good review, to learn about the introduction of a story to the climax all the way down to the resolution. We were able to watch “Remember the Titans and were given the chance to write an essay on it by using the plot diagram. We had to agree or disagree if the movie followed the plot diagram setting, which it did, without a doubt. This will help me a lot when I need to write my other essays or papers throughout the year, it will give me a layout of how I should do it, for example: I can ask myself “do I have an introduction?” or “Rising actions, with a good climax” if so what are my example of that. This is very good to have in my composition book because I can always go back to it whenever I need too for any answers to my questions. Finally I learned how to stay on top of things. I learned that in this class, that there is at least one discussion once a week on the “justinsplace,” so I have learned to look at that and make sure I am up to date on all of my assignments for the next couple of weeks. I have also learned how to do and handle my own wiki, its been fun messing around with it, and I am sure we will get to do this all year long.
