ASYMMETRICAL STARBURST Fourth grade measurement project Authentic Task Students explore geometry and art by creating asymmetrical starburst designs Net Standards Creativity Critical thinking, problem solving, Math Standards Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement: READY THE LEARNER Review Pixie tools how to use shape tool – line tool instruct how to use rulers, change ruler units review paint bucket usage TARGET SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES Students will create an asymetrical star using a straight line tool. STEP BY STEP STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Open Pixie 2. Click View, click rulers, and then set the unit of measure for the ruler 3. Draw a straight line 4 inches long, somewhere in the middle of your page. NOTE: when choosing the line size choose the smallest brush size possible. 4. Switch to your paint brush, smallest size. Draw 10 dots below line and 10 dots above 5. Starting at one end or the other of the line, using the line tool again, connect to 1 (one) dot and then to the other end of the straignt line to make a triangle. 6. Continue in this fashion to connect each dot to the line to make triangles. 7. When all triangles are made – double check that you’ve connected eachtriangle so when you use the paint bucket nothing will “spill” out 8. Color in your triangles any way you want, using the paint bucket. You may need to use the zoom tool to make your triangles big enough to empty the paint buctet into it.
