SON OF GOD
(by Sharny Russell)
Now listen here! Here’s a story about Jesus,
The Messiah, Son of God. Are you ready?
Vs 1 He cast the demons out,
Healed the people by the hundreds at the door.
He cured a fever, cleansed the leper, stopped the storm.
When He commanded it, a gang of demons ran away.
They knew He was God’s Son - the Holy One.
Vs 2 He stopped a flow of blood from a woman,
Raised a little girl from the dead.
He fed the thousands with two fish and five loaves of bread.
He walked across the waters of the Sea of Galilee.
He made the deaf to hear,
The dumb to speak, the blind to see.
Vs 3 The people were astonished, everyone was amazed.
They said, ‘Who is this miracle worker
who can never, ever be fazed?’
The winds and waves obey Him; bad evil spirits too.
Is this some new religion?
Well maybe His claims are true. Uh-huh!
Vs 4 The Scribes and Pharisees kept close,
They watched His every move.
Forgiving sins? Utter blasphemy! What is he out to prove?
He healed a sick man on the Sabbath Day - how rude!
He spends His time with sinners and all kinds of nasty dudes!
Vs 5 He knew what they were thinking,
He looked into their hearts.
No matter how they tried to trick Him up,
Their arguments fell apart.
He always had an answer, He always used the Word.
There was no one quite like Him,
That they had ever seen or heard!
Vs 6 They came from all around,
The crowds grew bigger everyday.
They watched His miracles,
They listened to every word He had to say.
It was clear that Jesus had authority and power
To save them from the enemy.
This was the hour.

Vs 7 So surely now it’s time to take His rightful place as King.
He’s famous, popular - a cinch to win!
The throne in Jerusalem is waiting just for Him!
But no, no, no, no, no, no... He spoke to them.
Vs 8 “The Son of Man must suffer many things
And be rejected and killed.
The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve,
And to give His life as a ransom for many.
If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself,
And take up His cross and follow Me.”
Vs 9 They did not understand His words at all,
They hadn’t got a clue.
They could not bear to see
The pain and the shame that He went through.
But though it looked so hopeless, Jesus had the battle won.
The job was done - the New Covenant begun.
Vs 10 And as He died upon the cross,
darkness filled the land,
There were many people standing there
who just could not understand.
The centurion who had been in charge found the moment odd,
And said, “Truly this man was... the Son of God.”
Vs 11 He was resurrected on the third day,
The stone was rolled away
By an angel of the Lord who appeared to Mary,
Mary Magdalene and Salome,
“Go tell His disciples He’ll meet them there in Galilee.”
And Jesus said, “Go into all the world.
Preach the Gospel (and) baptise those who believe…
Vs 12 My children, be on guard.
In the last days false prophets will arise
They’ll point and say:
‘Look, here is Christ! There is Christ!’
Don’t you listen to their lies. Be warned.
With many signs and wonders they’ll lead many astray!
Dear children, you belong to Me,
You must not go their way!
So, go in my name!
I’ll walk and work with you!”
