Swissleaks is the name of a journalistic investigation of a giant tax evasion scheme allegedly operated with the
knowledge and encouragement of the British multinational bank HSBC via its Swiss subsidiary, HSBC Private
Bank (Suisse). And Turkey is ranked #23 among the countries with the largest dollar amounts in the
leaked Swiss files
The 10th day of #swissleaks revealed it opened 10 investigations to HSBC(Link ) (Link)

It is based on confidential information regarding Luxembourg’s tax rulings, set up by PricewaterhouseCoopers from 2002 to 2010
to the benefit of its clients. This investigation resulted in making tax rulings available to the public in November 2014 for over three

Missing Child Data/ News
There was the disappearance of a child in Istanbul in April 2014 and this news drove the public interest greatly. On a daily
basis, hundreds of children go missing all around Turkey, however this particular case warranted more media attention, for
reasons which were unclear. Therefore, we wanted to search and make investigative data journalism based on other
missing children's data etc. However we were faced with some difficulties as there were three different sets of data from
three separate sources. This made reporting or sourcing data on this subject extremely confusing.
According to the Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI):
27000 children are missing
Ministry of the Interior:
15000
Lost Relatives Families Association (YAKAD):
30000
So upon doing some research with these organizations we were left with three difference sets of information.
What did we do about this?
●We produced news articles regarding the discrepancies in the sources of information regarding these missing children
to drive the public interest higher and alert people of these issues during the time of the previously mentioned high
interest in the missing Istanbul child case. This brought awareness during this peak time to the fact that there are
problems with differences in data for this very sensitive and important issue.
What has happened since?
●We made 2 FOI request in 2014 to Ministry of the Interior however we are yet to receive any answers. We will be
resending the questions again.
