Con Arguments






Animal suffering is excessive in
regardless of possible benefits.
Opponents, particularly supporters
of animal rights, argue further that
benefits to human beings cannot
outweigh the suffering of animals.
Human beings have no moral right
to use individual animals in ways
that do not benefit that individual.
In practice there is widespread
abuse of animals
Animals do not consent to being
tested upon.
Animal testing is bad science

Pro Arguments







It is unethical to test the side-effects
of drugs on human beings.
Humans that use medicine derived
from animal research are healthier.
Animals receive better care due to
advances in veterinary medicine.
10 X more animals are used by
humans for other purposes:
agriculture, hunting, pest control,
than in animal testing.
150 million large mammals are used
in agriculture each year.
Over 7 million dogs/cats euthanised
in animal shelters each year,
1 million animals are killed each
day by automobiles. ITT-Technical Institute, Torrance

IAMS Shocker





For nearly 10 months in 2002 and
early 2003, a PETA investigator
went undercover at an IAMS testing
laboratory
Investigator found dogs who had
gone crazy from intense
confinement in barren steel cages
and cement cells
Dogs had been left on a filthy paintchipped floor after muscle chunks
had been hacked from their thighs
Horribly sick dogs and cats who
were suffering in their cages
Dogs and cats neglected and left to
suffer without veterinary care.
