Course Description:
Students enrolled in this hands-on course will attain higher-level
computer literacy skills using a personal computer and desktop application software. Upon
successful completion of this course, students will have mastered the use of spreadsheet
software. In addition, students will demonstrate the ability to integrate Microsoft Office
applications. Students will continue to develop their Internet e-mail, critical thinking and
language art skills throughout the course. Students will have the opportunity to earn globally
recognized technology certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS).
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to
understand how to use Microsoft Excel in the following areas:

Manage the worksheet environment.
Create cell data.
Format cells and worksheets.
Manage worksheets and workbooks.
Apply formulas and functions.
Present data visually.
Share worksheet data with other users.
Analyze and organize data.
Demonstrate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation program
functions.
10. Apply critical thinking to all assigned activities.
11. Demonstrate proper language art skills, including proofreading and editing skills.
12. Create an electronic portfolio.
13. Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary for entry level computing positions.
Prerequisites: None
Assignments: All assignments will be submitted electronically through ebackpack/Gmail.
Grading: Grading scale is based on Woodbridge Township School District established grading
policy. Marking period assignments are distributed as follows:
Major Assessments – (Tests & Longer Projects) – 50%
Minor Assessments – (Quizzes & Shorter Projects) – 40%
Homework Assessments – 10%
Final Exam: 20% of final grade for the course
Exams: MOS Certification Excel Exam (Final Exam) to be administered on a date to be
determined. In the event a student is absent on the last day of the marking period, the final
exam policy established by WTSD applies.
