Warm Up..
• Place your backpacks along the back wall if you are still unable to get
into your locker
• You will need your pencil, agenda, and colored pencils if you have
them today
• Complete Wednesday’s warm up now! DO NOT WORK AHEAD!
• REMEMBER YOU ARE QUIET IN YOUR SEAT WORKING WHEN THE
FINAL BELL RINGS
Today’s Agenda..
• Temperature and Solubility Lab in groups
• Video on Discovery Education with questions
Groups to today’s Lab…
• We will count off from 1 – 5
• When I say move, you will go to your groups’ assigned area to
complete the lab
• TAKE ALL OF YOUR THINGS….YOU WILL STAY WITH YOUR GROUP
UNTIL THE END OF CLASS…
Temperature and Solubility Lab
• Title the next available page in your notebook
• “ Temperature and Solubility Lab”
• Label the page, number the page and add to the table of contents!
Purpose of Lab
• Purpose: Does the temperature of a solvent affect solubility?
Research
• Research: copy these notes on the next slide
Solubility Research
• Remember Solubility = an ability of a substance to dissolve
• A solute’s solubility depends on :
• type of solvent used
• the temperature of both the solute and solvent
• particle size
• The most common solvent = water
known as the “universal solvent”
Hypothesis
• Hypothesis: If I heat up a solvent, then the solubility will…..(complete
your answer picking one statement below and writing the entire
sentence in your notebook)
• 1. Increase (more solute will dissolve)
or
• 2. Decrease (less solute will dissolve)
or
• 3. Remain the same (temperature has no effect)
Remember….Solute vs. Solvent
• To put it in simple words:
When we add sugar to water, it will dissolve. In this process:
• Solute?
• the sugar
• Solvent?
• the water
• Solution?
• Sugar water
Experiment Time!
• Solubility and Temperature Experiment
• Each member will have 1 set of directions
• Read all directions and write all information in your notebook
• Remember you are working together so everyone in your group is at
the same place
Discovery Ed video
• “Solubility” worksheet
• You will complete this worksheet with your group using 1
chromebook
• Remember you are working as a group to answer the questions
• discovery ed video * you must then select the solubility video (scroll
down and click)

•
Exit Ticket
• On the back of your solubility worksheet answer the following
question:
• List the 6 steps of the Scientific Method (in correct order) and
describe each step (for instance: Purpose could be described as why
you are conducting research or what you are trying to find out)
