HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE MIDDLETON PUBLIC LIBRARY
On February 27, 1927, the members of the
Middleton Progressive Women’s Club
started a library by donating a shelf’s worth
of books, which were made available at the BurmeisterKruse Department Store, located at the northwest corner of
Hubbard and Parmenter.

ability to carry out our mission
and provide efficient &
favorable services.
The Building Feasibility Study is
the Library’s
LONG TERM
planning tool.
Middleton Public Library
current building is
25 years old.
Our current facility is not designed for
today’s Technology.

Community Scan Day Event
Service desks and 4 of the 6 restrooms
do not meet Accessibility Code
requirements and ADA guidelines.
Archer Meeting Room kitchen does not meet
Accessibility Code requirements.
Updated kitchen
facilities and
appropriate
storage space is
needed.
Public access to the meeting rooms is not within sightline of library
staff and is a security issue for both staff and patrons.
Wiring was designed for technology used in 2003.
Storage for children’s events and programs is currently in the closet
originally intended for meeting room furniture and equipment (now
stored in the furnace room.)
Staff brings towels and library toys home to be washed.
We’ve outgrown our Youth Services spaces.
Middleton Public Library need!
Inside, storytime often exceeds fire
code regulations. Teen area is
congested & too narrow for
wheelchairs and strollers...
and Outside learning space is in
the parking lot, near the railroad
tracks.
