RTE50103 Diploma of Agriculture RTE50403 Diploma of Rural Business Management RTD50102 Diploma of Conservation & Land Management Productivity Places Program This training is funded by the NSW Government in partnership with the Australian Government Contact: Alison McIntosh Farm Gate Training & Consulting Po Box 6186 ALEXANDRIA NSW 2015 Email: alison@fgt.com.au Ph: Alison 0400 411 419 Page 1 of 25 Option 1. Workshop training Training can be provided in a workshop format where we have 6 – 12 people training in the same course and units. Approximately 21/2 days per workshop with 4 – 5 workshops for the qualification. These workshops can be held over a 12 – 24 month period. Each workshop would cover approximately 2 units with take home work to be completed by the client. At the completion of workshops and all assessment a qualification is issued. Option 2. What is Recognition of Prior Learning? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or skills recognition means that the skills and knowledge you have already acquired throughout your life can be recognised so that you can achieve a qualification. Once you decide on the qualification that you wish to achieve, you will select units. These units will align with your current skills and knowledge. To prove that you have these skills you will provide your assessor with evidence. Evidence can vary greatly and can range from photographs, letters of recommendation, working documents, conversation with your assessor, etc. Evidence can be collected from all areas where you have learnt skills. Example: paid or unpaid work in Australia or overseas on-the-job training other qualifications from Australia or overseas community or voluntary work hobbies, sport and leisure activities Recognition of prior learning (RPL) flow chart →→You decide that you wish to RPL your skills and knowledge You will receive ideas of evidence from Farm Gate Training once you select your units You choose a qualification that is relevant to you You decide on the units you want to be assessed Collect evidence related to your units to prove your skills and knowledge Decide on a day when your assessor will visit You and your Assessor spend a day together conducting your RPL Page 2 of 25 The Assessor finalises your evidence & your qualification is issued What is the difference between a Diploma of Rural Business Management, a Diploma of Agriculture and a Diploma of Conservation & Land Management? All of the units for selection in the Diploma of Rural Business Management are available for selection in the Diploma of Agriculture. The major difference between the two is that the Diploma of Rural Business Management has some ‘must do’ units which relate particularly to Rural Business Management. Agriculture has no ‘must do’ units and has a larger selection of units due to incorporating more rural production areas. Diploma of Conservation and Land Management has a larger but certainly directed selection of units. This is qualification is very well matched to those who are employed directly in areas of land management. How do I select my units to be assessed? When selecting your units you need to think about the following: a) What skills and knowledge do you currently have? b) Where are your strengths? c) Within you current job, are there skills that you would like to be formally recognised through a qualification? d) If you are thinking about changing your job, are there skills that are essential for your new job that you could have formally recognised through a qualification? e) What are you hoping the outcome will be once you achieve this qualification? Remember when selecting units you need to think about what evidence you can collect to prove your skills and knowledge. Often your selection is made easier by talking it over with your assessor. Please phone Susan on 0427 625492 if you wish to discuss your selection. What does collecting evidence mean? Once you select your units your assessor from Farm Gate Training will forward you Evidence Guides (please see example attached). This assists you to collect evidence related to your units. You will receive an evidence guide for each individual unit. Some evidence will be able to be used for more than one unit. This is fine. The assessor will ensure that it is attached as evidence for all the relevant units. Remember evidence can vary greatly. What is the cost? The cost is based on NSW Tafe rates. Please discuss this with our staff.
