Take value chain illustration and explore the topic of ‘people’
Guiding Question: Which people do you come in contact with at each stage of the business and how do you impact
them?
How can you serve people at each stage of the business?
 Suppliers
 Employees
 Customers
Life (business) is not about what I get but what I give (seeking first the kingdom)
Life drainer vs. life giver (session 6)
Implication: in and through business, the question is
“How can I contribute? How can I love and serve others?”
All about contribution

Business View





This is where business actually happens.
Because they make up 70%+ of your business activity
This is where most of the value for your customers will be added
This is where you make your money, i.e. profit
This is where most of your money will go and where most of your money will be made.
What are Operations?



Transformation Process – taking raw materials and labour and combining these factors into products and
services using skills, knowledge, know-how etc
Series of individual processes linked together in the transformation of input factors into finished products
and services.
Ongoing recurring cyclical activities whereby assets (tangible & intangible) are used to produce value
Vision for Operations



Consistency and sustainability of delivery of products and services, whereby the cost is less than the
money received for the products and services = profit
The focus is on managing the relationship between costs and income
Businesses can often be profitable without changing the price of their products and services simply by
saving money on the operations side.
