A point is rewarded to the serving side whenever the other side commits a fault. Winning team needs to score 15 points. Grip • Forehand Grip - used to hit shots that are on the forehand side of your body and around-the-head shots • • • Place your playing hand on the handle as if you are shaking hands with it The racket handle should rest loosely in your fingers for greater flexibility Backhand Grip - used to hit shots that are on the backhand side of your body • • • Hold the racket as you would on a forehand grip Turn the racket counter-clockwise so that the V shape moves leftwards Place your thumb against the back bevel of the handle for greater leverage and power What the grips look like SKILLS Serve ~ Clear ~ Drop ~ Drive Serving • • • • Must be underhand The server and receiver stand in the diagonally opposite service courts. Once the shuttle is put into play, players can move anywhere on their side of the net. Take turns serving with your teammates. It will create space in the frontcourt for you to exploit. • Attacking Clear • • • • Trajectory that runs almost parallel to the ground Hit the shuttle square with your racket face This shot allows less time to your opponent to get behind the shuttle, potentially causing a weak return Defensive Clear • • • Trajectory is high and deep Shuttle is hit with your racket face leaning slightly backwards This shot gives you more time to return to your base and prepare for the next shot Clears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= L9pTyygAEGU Drop • • • • Use this to move your opponent to the frontcourt. This shot creates space in the mid court and backcourt for you to exploit. A rally is lost if the shuttle: • • • • • • Is hit into the net Is hit over the net but outside of the opponent’s court If the shuttle touches the player’s clothing or body If the shuttle is hit by the same person twice in a row If the shuttle is caught and held on the racket then slung If the shuttle is hit before it crosses over the net Safety First! • • • • • • Be careful not to hit your partner with the racket. Make sure you have a firm grip on the racket. Stay on your own court. Stop playing if others enter your court. If your shuttle goes into another court, wait until their play stops. Be careful and aware of your surroundings (poles, walls, people, etc)
