Scoring
•
•
•
Points are scored only by the serving
side.
A point is rewarded to the serving side
whenever the other side commits a fault.
Winning team needs to score 15 points.
Grip
•
Forehand Grip - used to hit shots that are on the
forehand side of your body and around-the-head shots
•
•
•
Place your playing hand on the handle as if you are shaking
hands with it
The racket handle should rest loosely in your fingers for
greater flexibility
Backhand Grip - used to hit shots that are on the
backhand side of your body
•
•
•
Hold the racket as you would on a forehand grip
Turn the racket counter-clockwise so that the V shape moves
leftwards
Place your thumb against the back bevel of the handle for
greater leverage and power

Clear
•
Use this to move your opponent to the
backcourt. It will create space in the frontcourt
for you to exploit.
•
Attacking Clear
•
•
•
•
Trajectory that runs almost parallel to the ground
Hit the shuttle square with your racket face
This shot allows less time to your opponent to get behind the
shuttle, potentially causing a weak return
Defensive Clear
•
•
•
Trajectory is high and deep
Shuttle is hit with your racket face leaning slightly
backwards
This shot gives you more time to return to your base and
prepare for the next shot

Drop
•
•
•
•
Use this to move your opponent to the
frontcourt. This shot creates space in the
mid court and backcourt for you to exploit.
Should land in your opponent’s frontcourt
area, as close to net as possible
Point of impact is above the racket
shoulder
This shot is intended to move your
opponent to the frontcourt, forcing a weak
return to your mid court for you to return
strongly

Rally
•
•
A rally is won when a shuttle is hit over the net
and onto the floor of the opponent’s court.
A rally is lost if the shuttle:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Is hit into the net
Is hit over the net but outside of the opponent’s court
If the shuttle touches the player’s clothing or body
If the shuttle is hit by the same person twice in a row
If the shuttle is caught and held on the racket then
slung
If the shuttle is hit before it crosses over the net
Safety First!
•
•
•
•
•
•
Be careful not to hit your partner with the
racket.
Make sure you have a firm grip on the
racket.
Stay on your own court.
Stop playing if others enter your court.
If your shuttle goes into another court,
wait until their play stops.
Be careful and aware of your surroundings
(poles, walls, people, etc)
