TYPES OF GOVERNMENTS UNLIMITED GOVERNMENT Government in which leaders rule without any restrictions. These rulers do not follow the rules they make. EX: China, Iraq, Iran ABSOLUTE MONARCHY Unlimited type of government Form of government in which the king or queen governs with complete power. Kings and queens are born into ruling families. Their power is inherited. DICTATORSHIP Unlimited type of government. Government under the control of one all-powerful leader. EX: Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler, Ivan the Terrible, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot LIMITED GOVERNMENT Type of government where, through law, some control is placed on leadership’s powers. Rulers must follow the rules. Constitution exists so government officials can not take advantage of the people. EX: United States, India, Italy DEMOCRACY Limited type of government. Form of government in which citizens choose the nation’s leaders by voting for them. Representative Democracy – government where the people are represented by elected leaders. Direct Democracy – people govern themselves by voting individually on issues. CONSTUTIONAL MONARCHY Limited type of government. Government in which a king or queen is the official head of state, but elected officials run the government. Parliament – supreme legislative body in the United Kingdom and other countries.
