GOVERNMENT TYPES Democracy: Ruled by MANY. a. Direct Democracy: All citizens have a vote in all major decisions. Works best with small groups. b. Indirect Democracy: Citizens elect officials (representatives) to make major decisions for the country. Citizens hold the right and power to remove and replace elected officials if needed. Oligarchy: Ruled by FEW. a. Oligarchy means the rule of the few, and those few are generally the people who are richer and more powerful than the others, what you might call the aristocrats or the nobles. Autocracy: Ruled by ONE. a. Monarchy: Ruled by royalty, such as a king or queen. i. Absolute Monarchy: king or queen has unlimited power. ii. Constitutional Monarchy: the power of the king or queen is limited by the constitution set by the country. b. Dictatorship: Ruling by force with unlimited power. A similar type of Autocracy is a Tyranny.
