†The USB Audio Interface is used for direct connection to and control of some current digital audio players and

Performance
Under the hood lives a 2.4-liter i-VTEC® engine with advanced features like an
aluminum-alloy block and head.
Big Motivation
Take off with 166 horsepower under the hood, Real Time™ 4WD for tricky
terrain and 1,500 lbs of towing capacity.*
Balanced Power
The Element’s advanced i-VTEC®, 16-valve DOHC engine design provides the
best of both worlds: power for cruising and twin balance shafts for smooth, quiet
running.
Sophisticated Suspension
Smoothing out the bumps with its Control-Link MacPherson Strut Front
Suspension and precise steering, the Element’s road manners may be better than
yours.
*Towing requires the addition of the Honda accessory trailer hitch and hitch ball. Consult your local Honda dealer
for additional towing information.
Safety
From its Side-Impact door beams to Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor, the
Element represents an evolving and comprehensive approach to safety. These and other
standard safety features helped the Element earn 5 stars in NHTSA frontal and sideimpact crash tests*, the best possible rating.
Tops in Safety
It all adds up to impressive safety performance. For proof, look to the latest
findings of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which recognized the
Element as a 2009 "Top Safety Pick."
In Charge
Standard on every Element is a complement of advanced safety systems to keep
you out of trouble and in command. Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) helps
sense oversteer or understeer in an emergency situation, and then adjusts brake
pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver
control and keep you on course. 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), along with
Brake Assist, allows full braking force for authoritative stopping. And for better
road composure, the Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), helps balance braking
forces and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver when a
tire’s pressure reaches a significantly low level†.
Strong Box
Along with Side-Impact Door Beams and front and rear crush zones, the Element
was built with a highly rigid Unit-Body Construction to lessen intrusion into the
passenger cabin. This reinforced body structure helped the Element achieve a 5star side-impact rating*.
Expanding Protection
While sharing our roads with many other drivers, a time may arise where
collision is unavoidable. For superior defense during impact, Element occupants
are surrounded by six airbags. The array of coverage includes dual-stage, dualthreshold front airbags, front side airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position
Detection System (OPDS) and side curtain airbags—all standard.
Honda’s Safety Philosophy
Honda is committed to providing safety for everyone — not only for our own
drivers and passengers, but also for other vehicle occupants. The knowledge
gained from our studies helps us identify new technologies and ultimately helps
provide safer vehicles on roadways for everyone.
*Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car
Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov). Model tested with standard side-impact air bags (SABs).
†For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely
on the monitor system. See your local Honda dealer for details.
Environment
For three decades, Honda has played a leading role in meeting environmental
challenges.
The Element and the Environment
All Element models feature Honda i-VTEC® technology for reduced emissions
and higher fuel economy* on regular unleaded gas. Gear ratios in the 5-speed
automatic transmission also do their part: They are optimized to balance driving
performance, fuel economy and low emissions.
*EPA-estimated mpg 20/25/22 (city/highway/combined 2WD AT), 19/24/21 (city/highway/combined 4WD AT) and
18/23/20 (city/highway/combined 2WD and 4WD manual). Based on 2009 EPA mileage estimates, reflecting new
EPA fuel-economy methods beginning with 2008 models. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to
models before 2008. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.
Audio
Surround yourself with the Element’s 270-watt, 7-speaker audio system featuring a
Dynamic Linear Phase subwoofer (EX).
